Tom Cruise shares 20 new images to celebrate the release of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. In theaters as of last Friday, the film marks the eighth installment in the long-celebrated action franchise starring Cruise as Ethan Hunt, a highly skilled field agent of the secret government agency known as the IMF (Impossible Missions Force). The very first Mission: Impossible movie arrived in 1996, nearly three decades ago, and The Final Reckoning has been heavily touted as the end of an era for the series.
To celebrate the recent release of The Final Reckoning, Cruise took to his X/Twitter account to share 20 behind-the-scenes Mission: Impossible pH๏τos and an emotional message to fans and the creative crew and cast who helped bring each project to life. In addition to starring as the protagonist, the star also produced each one of the eight films, which Cruise called “the adventure of a lifetime.” Check out his post below:

What This Means For Mission: Impossible
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning Is A Milestone In The Franchise
Cruise’s message comes in light of The Final Reckoning‘s box office success, with the movie amᴀssing $64 million during its three-day opening weekend and topping the franchise’s previous films. The star previously took to his Instagram to voice his graтιтude and excitement, calling the opening of his latest movie and the entire moviegoing frame “one for the history books.” Since then, The Final Reckoning has hit several box office milestones, grossing over $220 million worldwide and securing a place among the actor’s top 25 highest-grossing movies of all time.
For the four-day Memorial Day weekend, The Final Reckoning earned $79 million.
The Mission: Impossible franchise has gone through a lot of changes since its debut, but one thing that hasn’t changed is how it remains a Tom Cruise production. The new behind-the-scenes pH๏τos document the journey the actor shared with those involved in the franchise, past and present. From dangerous stunt performances to the on-set filming of a scene, to the real-life locations they used to capture the most iconic moments in the franchise, the pH๏τos stand as witnesses to its history.
Our Take On Nearly 30 Years Of Mission: Impossible
Tom Cruise Realized Some Of His Wildest Dreams Through The Mission: Impossible Movies
After producing his first Mission: Impossible movie, Cruise has also gone on to produce several other successful тιтles that he starred in, including Jack Reacher, Vanilla Sky, and Top Gun: Maverick, but none of them are as personal as the eight-film franchise. Cruise performed some of his most dangerous stunts and achieved his wildest dreams while filming the long-celebrated franchise. It’s not an overstatement that he defines Mission: Impossible, and to some extent, the franchise also defines him.
The Final Reckoning is a significant milestone in the franchise, since it could potentially be the last entry. While there has been speculation about the franchise continuing without Cruise, the eighth installment has left enough room for a ninth Mission: Impossible movie. It’s very possible that the franchise won’t end here, but 30 years is a long time, and it certainly warrants a pause to take a look at the road behind.
