June 2025 is bringing a lot of exciting movies to theaters, among them a John Wick spinoff, the latest project by Wes Anderson, a Stephen King story, Pixar’s newest adventure, the live-action version of a beloved animated movie, and a lot more. As 2025 reaches its halfway point in June, it’s worth taking a look back at the movies that have been released in theaters so far. 2025 has seen various hits and a couple of failures, too, with some of its most notable movies being the musical Better Man, the horror movies Heart Eyes and The Monkey, and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners.

May 2025 saw the theatrical release of Marvel’s Thunderbolts*, the slasher Clown in a Cornfield, the disaster movie Final Destination Bloodlines, the final entry in the Mission: Impossible saga, Disney’s live-action remake of Lilo & Sтιтch, the martial arts drama Karate Kid: Legends, and the horror movie Bring Her Back. Now, to kick off the summer, June will bring a new story from the world of John Wick, a long-awaited horror sequel, Pixar’s latest adventure, the live-action version of How to Train Your Dragon, a sports drama movie starring Brad Pitt, and a lot more.

Dangerous Animals follows a young surfer who is abducted by Tucker (Jai Courtney), a serial killer, who intends to feed her to sharks. Trapped on his boat with another victim, they must find a way to outwit Tucker before they become the sharks’ next meal. Dangerous Animals had its world premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.

The John Wick saga is now expanding with the spinoff From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, the fifth movie in the franchise. Set between John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4, Ballerina is directed by Len Wiseman and stars Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro, a ballerina trained in the ᴀssᴀssin traditions of the Ruska Roma. Eve sets out on a mission to avenge her father’s death, and she will come across some dangerous enemies. Also starring in From the World of John Wick: Ballerina are Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Lance Reddick, Norman Reedus, Ian McShane, and Keanu Reeves.

The Phoenician Scheme is an espionage black comedy written and directed by Wes Anderson. The Phoenician Scheme follows Zsa-zsa Kordan (Benicio del Toro), a wealthy businessman who appoints his daughter, Liesl (Mia Threapleton), as his sole heir… and she’s a nun. As Korda embarks on a new enterprise, he and Liesl are targeted by terrorists, ᴀssᴀssins, and scheming tycoons. Like every Wes Anderson movie, The Phoenician Scheme has an all-star cast, including Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Willem Dafoe, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Bill Murray.

The Ritual is a horror movie directed by David Midell and based on a true story. It’s the story of Father Theophilus Riesinger (Al Pacino) and Father Joseph Steiger (Dan Stevens), one having a crisis of faith and the other confronting his past. However, they must overcome their differences and team up to perform a risky exorcism involving a young woman. Also starring in The Ritual are Ashley Greene, Patricia Heaton, Abigail Cowen, and Patrick Fabian.

The Life of Chuck is a sci-fi drama movie directed by Mike Flanagan and based on the 2020 novella of the same name by Stephen King. Materialists is a rom-com written and directed by Celine Song. Materialists follows Lucy (Dakota Johnson), a young and ambitious matchmaker who, as her job тιтle says, makes a living out of pairing people up with their perfect partners. However, she soon realizes that she’s now in the middle of a love triangle between Harry (Pedro Pascal), the perfect match for her, and her ex-boyfriend, John (Chris Evans). Also starring in Materialists are Zoë Winters, Marin Ireland, Sawyer Spielber, and John Magaro.

How to Train Your Dragon

How to Train Your Dragon Will Be Released On June 13, 2025

One of the latest additions to the trend of live-action remakes is DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon. Set in a world where Vikings and dragons have been enemies for generations, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III (Mason Thames), the awkward son of Stoick the Vast (Gerard Butler), the chieftain of the isle of Berk, defies the tradition of dragon-fighting. Hiccup befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon with whom he forms a special bond, through which the true nature of dragons is revealed, challenging what the Vikings had believed for centuries.

Elio Will Be Released On June 20, 2025

Elio is a sci-fi adventure film and the latest project by Pixar. Directed by Madeline Sharafian, Domee Shi, and Adrian Molina, Elio follows Elio Solis (voiced by Yonas Kibread), an 11-year-old space fanatic with a very active imagination and who’s obsessed with aliens. One day, Elio is beamed up to the Communiverse by aliens and accidentally becomes the intergalactic ambᴀssador of Earth. As such, Elio must form new alliances with different alien lifeforms, navigate a one-of-a-kind crisis, and discover who he is and what he’s meant to be.

28 Years Later

28 Years Later Will Be Released On June 20, 2025

28 Years Later is an apocalyptic horror movie directed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland. 28 years have pᴀssed since the Rage virus escaped a medical research lab, and the survivors have had to find ways to continue living. A group of survivors have established themselves on a small island that connects to the mainland through a heavily defended causeway, but when a father and his son leave the island on a mission into the heart of the mainland, they face the disturbing horrors of the world.

28 Years Later is the third installment in the 28 Days Later movie series, right after 2007’s 28 Weeks Later. Starring in 28 Years Later are Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Erin Kellyman, Edvin Ryding, and Emma Laird. 28 Years Later was sH๏τ back-to-back with its sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, directed by Nia DaCosta and scheduled for a January 2026 release.

F1 Will Be Released On June 27, 2025

F1 is a sports drama movie directed by Joseph Kosinski. F1 follows Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), a Formula One driver who raced in the 1990s but was forced to retire after a horrible crash. When Formula One team owner and friend, Ruben (Javier Bardem), contacts Sonny, he comes out of retirement to mentor Joshua (Damson Idris), a rookie prodigy, for the Apex Grand Prix team. Also starring in F1 are Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia, and Shea Whigham.

M3GAN 2.0

M3GAN 2.0 Will Be Released On June 27, 2025

The sequel to the 2022 horror hit M3GAN has finally arrived. Appropriately тιтled M3GAN 2.0, the sci-fi horror movie is directed by Gerard Johnstone and takes place two years after the events of the first movie. Gemma (Allison Williams) is now a successful author and an advocate for the regulation of AI, while keeping the still-active M3GAN in a small, harmless robotic doll.

However, when the M3GAN technology is stolen and used to create a military robot called Amelia, she turns against her creators and starts an AI takeover. Cady (Violet McGraw) convinces Gemma to rebuild M3GAN with some needed advanced upgrades so she can fight Amelia and pretty much save the world.
