Lilo & Sтιтch’s Experiment 624 Tease Explained

Lilo & Sтιтch is Disney’s latest live-action remake, offering a new spin on the 2002 animated classic in today’s modern movie landscape. As with all live-action remakes, Lilo & Sтιтch has been controversial since its announcement, though generally, both critics and audiences seem to sway towards the more positive side this time around. Regardless of people’s thoughts on the film, it has done extremely well so far, and one of the movie’s major teases sets up a potential future for the franchise.

While Lilo & Sтιтch‘s characters are the central focus, as they were in the original, several moments in the remake hinted towards a wider universe. One of these teases was very understated, only appearing on-screen for a few short moments. However, what it teased could be the biggest hint as to where the series will go after this first movie, and seeing as Lilo & Sтιтch‘s reviews are skewing more positively, that seems very likely.

Lilo & Sтιтch Shows Experiment 624 As One Of Jumba’s Designs

Jumba Was Very Busy Before The Events Of Lilo & Sтιтch

Jumba is reacting to his sentencing in Lilo & Sтιтch

During Lilo & Sтιтch‘s ending, Jumba, who is the remake’s main antagonist, was looking through his numerous experimental creatures as he attempted to transform Sтιтch into Experiment 627. This is so that Jumba can make a pure evil version of him while removing his sense of empathy. While swiping through the catalog, one was called Experiment 624.

The character’s design is very clear, with the pink hologram outline shining through, so even though it went by quickly, the reference was pretty hard to miss. While it could seem like just a fun Easter Egg, this moment actually references a fairly important character from the Lilo & Sтιтch franchise.

Experiment 624 Is Angel, A Major Lilo & Sтιтch Character

She Appeared Throughout Multiple Shows And Movies

Angel was a character who wasn’t actually introduced in any of the Lilo & Sтιтch movies. She was introduced in Lilo & Sтιтch: The Series, which ran on ABC and Disney Channel from 2003 to 2006. Angel was a pink counterpart to Sтιтch, with the ability to sing a siren song that reversed someone’s morality, meaning that she could be used to essentially make a good person or other experiment evil. She was smuggled to Earth by Jumba during his initial attempt to capture Sтιтch, but obviously, she didn’t actually show up during the first movie.

Angel wasn’t able to turn Sтιтch evil since he was created after her. Reuben is also resistant to her siren for the same reason.

When she appeared in Lilo & Sтιтch: The Series, Angel was reactivated by Gantu as he continued to fight against the group in the show after his defeat in the first movie. She was antagonistic for a little while, willingly working with Gantu to trap Sтιтch and make him evil again. However, eventually, she did turn good and became romantically involved with Sтιтch in later episodes. She reappeared in Leroy & Sтιтch as a minor character and had a recurring role in the Sтιтch! Anime that ran for a few years after.

How Lilo & Sтιтch’s Angel Tease Sets Up A Sequel

She Could Be A Big Part Of The Next Lilo & Sтιтch Movie

As the new Lilo & Sтιтch referenced both Experiment 627 and 624, being evil Sтιтch and Angel, it is a big possibility that the next Lilo & Sтιтch movie will include both of these characters as major parts of the story. While they were only brought to the franchise in the television series, and not in the first sequel, which saw the introductions of Sparky and Reuben, they remained pretty big after their introductions until Disney stopped producing Lilo & Sтιтch media.

Disney Live-Action Remake

Worldwide Box Office

The Little Mermaid

$569.6 million

Mufasa: The Lion King

$722.6 million

Snow White

$205.4 million

Lilo & Sтιтch

$421 million (as of 05/30)

While Disney has not confirmed a sequel to the live-action Lilo & Sтιтch remake, the amount of money that the movie earned in its first weekend alone means that a continuation is almost guaranteed. The filmmakers will have a lot more creative freedom to do as they wish, making Angel’s premature introduction much more likely. Lilo & Sтιтch showing off Angel like this was a great way to foreshadow another installment, one that could pay off very well in the future.
