The live-action Lilo & Sтιтch remake reveals new lore about Jumba’s experiments through Easter eggs that most audiences missed. Disney’s 2025 Lilo & Sтιтch brings back the heart and chaos of the animated original, and sharp-eyed viewers may notice some Jumba-related deep-cut sci-fi world-building in the background. In the original animated film, Dr. Jumba Jookiba was known for creating the 600 series of experiments, including Sтιтch (Experiments 626). This led to the expansion of the Lilo & Sтιтch animated universe, prompting the storylines for Sтιтch! The Movie and a spinoff TV series.
In a recent interview with Variety, production designer Todd Cherniawsky broke down the Jumba Easter eggs audiences might have missed. Lilo & Sтιтch, directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, includes many Easter eggs that help expand the lore of the story and its characters. As it turns out, the film contains subtle nods to Jumba’s experiments and the broader universe of the Intergalactic Council, all through creative prop design and background detail. According to Cherniawsky, the remake subtly implies that Jumba’s experiments didn’t stop with the 600 series. Read his full comments below:
We made fast food and candy wrappers, all from the Intergalactic Council World. Everything was a seafood of some sort, a little space creature here and there.
There’s a whole series of petri dishes (on his science table) that contain all of his next experiments. So he’s probably well into the 700 series. The 600 series was by far his most successful. But we wanted to indicate that he was continually progressing and pushing his own boundaries.
We might see some of that trash and garbage. A lot of it ends up just getting blown out when they jettison the capsule.
What This Means For Lilo & Sтιтch
Jumba’s Lore Could Be Expanded Even Further In Future Projects
Although the Lilo & Sтιтch remake changed Jumba’s role to be the villain instead of Gantu, and it primarily focuses on Sтιтch and Lilo’s relationship, the subtle additions to Jumba’s character could suggest that Disney might revisit the mad scientist’s legacy in future installments. With visuals hinting at a 700 series of experiments, there’s plenty of material to explore, either in sequels, spinoffs, or short-form content. This could potentially work, especially if the creative team draws inspiration from the animated Lilo & Sтιтch universe, where Jumba’s experiments play a big role, and he’s another member of Lilo’s ohana instead of being the villain.
This also shows how committed the creative team was to building a fully realized sci-fi universe. Although the scattered intergalactic food wrappers and petri dishes don’t take center stage, these elements reward observant viewers and open the door to further installments. This could be a real possibility; since Lilo & Sтιтch became a global box office hit and one of Disney’s best remakes to date, the studio may be planning a sequel or some sort of continuation to the story. This could also allow for some rectifications for certain changes that Lilo & Sтιтch audiences did not like.

World-Building Details Like This Make The Remake Feel Fresh

While many Disney live-action remakes tend to play it safe, Lilo & Sтιтch manages to breathe new life into its classic story. Hidden details like Jumba’s aren’t just to decorate the background, they expand the live-action lore for those who are paying attention. With the right creative push, Disney could easily turn the film’s Easter eggs into fully developed narratives and follow in the animated original’s steps in creating a mᴀssive Lilo & Sтιтch universe with multiple movies and a TV series. After all, if Sтιтch was Experiment 626, the latter experiments could bring a new type of chaos that would be fun to explore.
