First Knives Out 3 Trailer Reveals December Release Date & Benoit Blanc’s Darkest Case Yet

Wake Up ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Man: A Knives Out Mystery gets a new trailer, revealing the movie’s release date and hyping a darker murder case. Following the success of the first Knives Out movie in 2019, director Rian Johnson and Benoit Blanc star Daniel Craig reteamed for Glᴀss Onion in 2022. Wake Up ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Man is Blanc’s third outing, and it’s set to feature an all-new star-studded cast, which includes Jeremy Renner, Cailee Spaeny, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Josh O’Connor, Andrew Scott, Kerry Washington, Glenn Close, and Thomas Haden Church. The movie was previously confirmed to release at some point in 2025.

At Netflix’s TUDUM event on Saturday night, Johnson was joined by Craig, Brolin, Kunis, Renner, Spaeny, and Close to unveil the first trailer for Wake Up ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Man, which teases a more sinister outing for Blanc as he takes on his darkest case yet. The trailer accompanies the news that the film will arrive on the streaming service on December 12 this year. Check out the trailer below:

What The Trailer Reveals About Wake Up ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Man

A Different Kind Of Benoit Blanc Mystery Is Coming

A woman opens church doors in Wake Up ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Man

Though both previous Knives Out films had elements of humor and levity, Glᴀss Onion was especially bright, taking place on a sunny Greek island. Wake Up ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Man appears to feature a tonal shift after this most recent Blanc adventure, seemingly putting the brilliant detective back on American soil in what looks to be a small-town environment. The teaser is also light on humor, suggesting that the next movie after the Glᴀss Onion ending could put Blanc in more danger than his past cases after another shocking murder, which he calls an “impossible crime.”

It also looks like religion will be a major theme this time around, with much of the action in the Wake Up ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Man trailer taking place in and around a church. Though exactly how religion will fit into the film remains to be seen, the trailer does reveal more about who will be playing who in the impressive cast. Kunis will seemingly be playing a town police officer, while O’Connor will be playing a potentially violent priest. Renner, Scott, Close, Haden Church, and Washington are also shown in the trailer as potential suspects.

Our Take On The Knives Out 3 Trailer

The Film Features One Particularly Exciting Element

Both of the previous Knives Out movies have been especially well received, with Glᴀss Onion reviews praising the film for its inventive and unpredictable narrative, as well as the strong performances from the cast. Part of the appeal of the franchise thus far is also that each installment stands alone and feels distinct. Wake Up ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Man continues this effective tradition, and looks to feature one of the most interesting locations and casts yet.

Knives Out features a 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes, while Glᴀss Onion features a 91%.

As of writing, Knives Out 4 has not been officially announced, so making Wake Up ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Man darker and more serious could be an effective way to up the stakes and to potentially send Blanc out on a particularly intense note. While Johnson is sure to deliver a twisting story and mystery, one of the most exciting aspects of the new film is actually Renner. After his near-death accident, Wake Up ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Man: A Knives Out Mystery could be the start of a major big-screen comeback for the Avengers star.
