Genius Star Wars Theory Retcons Ahsoka Into A Much Bigger Revenge Of The Sith Role

A compelling Star Wars theory suggests Ahsoka Tano might have played a bigger role in Revenge of the Sith than we think. During the events of the final prequel film, Anakin Skywalker’s former apprentice led the 332nd company alongside Commander Rex, liberating the planet of Mandalore from the grip of Maul and his followers. However, there may be a secret connection between a key scene with Anakin in Revenge of the Sith and Ahsoka in the final episodes of Clone Wars.

The final four episodes of Clone Wars happen concurrently with Revenge of the Sith. Reuniting with her old master and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka requests their help in liberating Mandalore. However, Anakin and Obi-Wan leave to rescue the Chancellor, leaving Ahsoka with a contingent of clones. Once Maul is captured and Ahsoka is en route to Coruscant, the events of Order 66 occur, forcing Tano and Rex to fight off the entire ship full of clones before going their separate ways. However, there may be more of a connection between Anakin and Ahsoka’s journeys than we think, involving none other than Master Yoda.

Anakin Sought Yoda’s Help With His Visions In Revenge of the Sith

“Train Yourself To Let Go Of Everything You Fear To Lose”

Anakin Skywalker and Master Yoda talking about Anakin's nightmares in Revenge of the Sith

After the Chancellor was rescued, Anakin began having nightmares and visions of the future, seeing his secret wife Padmé dying in childbirth, and the fate of the baby unknown. Without getting into specifics, Skywalker brings his fears and premonitions to Master Yoda. Yoda encourages Anakin to train himself to let go of everything he fears to lose. After all, death is a natural part of life, and the Jedi are called not to mourn nor miss those who move on due to attachments being forbidden.

However, all Grandmaster Yoda knew about Anakin’s premonitions was that he was afraid of losing someone close to him. With that in mind, it’s possible Yoda might have guessed Anakin was concerned about someone else entirely. At the time, Yoda didn’t have any knowledge of Skywalker’s secret marriage to Padmé (at least not until the end of Revenge of the Sith).

Did Yoda Think Anakin Was Talking About Ahsoka?

The Final Episodes of Clone Wars Support This Idea

What Yoda did know was that Anakin had a close bond with Ahsoka, his former apprentice. Before the events of Revenge of the Sith, Ahsoka had recently left the Jedi Order after she was framed for bombing the Jedi Temple and was forced to clear her own name with Skywalker’s help. While the Council invited her back with the promise of a knighthood, Tano refused, unable to reconcile the fact that the Jedi Order she’d dedicated her entire life to didn’t have her back.

As such, it was the Mandalore crisis that reunited Anakin and Ahsoka, just before Anakin had to leave to rescue Palpatine at the start of Revenge of the Sith. Likewise, it’s important to note that Yoda stayed behind after Ahsoka’s report of Maul’s capture to the Jedi Council was finished, wanting to know if Ahsoka had a message she wanted to share with Anakin Skywalker. As such, it’s very possible that Yoda might have ᴀssumed Anakin’s fear of loss was about losing Ahsoka again, especially after they’d just reunited.

Could Ahsoka Have Saved Anakin From The Dark Side?

One Of Star Wars’ Most Fascinating What-Ifs…

Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano in The Clone Wars season 7.

Tragically, Anakin and Ahsoka would not reunite again following the events of Revenge of the Sith and Clone Wars’ Siege of Mandalore, at least not until years later when Ahsoka faced Darth Vader in Star Wars Rebels season 2. To that end, one has to wonder how much impact Ahsoka could have made had she been on Coruscant during the events of Episode III, and if she could have prevented Anakin’s fall to the dark side. Tragically, all Ahsoka could do was learn about her master’s fate from Maul, who revealed Palpatine’s plans just before they happened in Revenge of the Sith.

At any rate, the idea that Yoda might have been thinking about Ahsoka when giving guidance to Anakin is certainly an interesting one. At the very least, there does seem to be enough circumstantial evidence to support the idea as logically possible within the established Star Wars canon.
