The following contains spoilers for Fear Street: Prom Queen.Fina Strazza, who plays Tiffany in Fear Street: Prom Queen, explains how her character hid her killer’s nature. Directed by Matt Palmer, Netflix’s new slasher film takes place at Shadyside High’s 1988 senior prom, where several prom queen candidates are targeted by more than one masked murderer. At the end of Prom Queen, it’s revealed that Tiffany’s mother is responsible for killing Lori Granger’s (India Fowler) father, and her father has murdered all the other candidates. Born and raised by two slashers, the seemingly innocent queen bee turns out just like her parents.
In an interview with ScreenRant‘s Grant Hermanns, Strazza spoke about Tiffany’s killer motives and how she hides them from everyone else. Referring to the speech Tiffany gave about her parents’ pressure after her dad was revealed to be a killer, the actor believes that her character is “speaking the truth,” but not without “ulterior motives behind it.” While filming the scene, Strazza revealed that she was genuinely sad because the movie was coming to an end. Read her comment below:
I think it’s a little bit of both. I think she’s speaking the truth with kind of ulterior motives behind it, but that genuine nature, that sadness, also probably came, because that was the very last scene we ever sH๏τ in the movie. India and I were a little bit like, “Oh man, this is the end,” and feeling like, inside, it’s all nothing, because we’re going to be separated 3000 miles apart.
What Fina Strazza’s Comment Means For Tiffany In Fear Street: Prom Queen
The Car Ride Explains Tiffany’s Killer Origin
During the car ride, Tiffany apologized to Lori and shared that she was compeтιтive because she never felt like she was good enough. Strazza’s comment sheds some light on how the speech also serves as an explanation for Tiffany’s motive and what shaped her as a killer like her parents, but it didn’t stop there. Tiffany’s vulnerability also prompted Lori to stay with her for the night.
In the same interview with Fear Street: Prom Queen‘s cast, Fowler and Straza also revealed that their off-screen friendship is the foundation of their on-screen rivalry, which allowed them to walk the “fine line between love and hate.” The movie has planted plenty of hints about Tiffany’s twisted obsession with Lori, including scenes that feel “weirdly intimate,” which adds to the “grossness” and Tiffany’s “horrible nature.”
Our Take On Tiffany’s Motives In Fear Street: Prom Queen
Tiffany Sees Lori As A Rival Long Before Senior Prom
Tiffany weaponized her sweetness and innocence in a similar way her mother hid her villain idenтιтy in Fear Street: Prom Queen throughout the years. This becomes obvious when her father’s mask comes off. Despite being an accomplice, Tiffany’s mother acted as a victim and used the others’ sympathy for her so that she could finish what she started by going after Lori. Similarly, Tiffany hides her motives in truth and uses her kindness as perfect camouflage.
Fear Street: Prom Queen‘s ending recontextualizes many scenes in the movie. In retrospect, Tiffany, who knows that her mother killed Lori’s father, has been leveraging what she knows, but others don’t know to bully and isolate Lori. Her speech during the car ride also seems to reveal that the core of their rivalry is jealousy and insecurity.
