Gaby Hoffmann speaks on Jeremy Allen White’s performance in Deliver Me From Nowhere. This movie is an upcoming biopic of music icon Bruce Springsteen, telling the story of his journey making his 1982 album Nebraska. The film is directed by Scott Cooper and features The Bear‘s White as the main star. Hoffmann plays Adele Springsteen, Bruce’s mother. In addition to White and Hoffman, Deliver Me From Nowhere features a leading cast including Stephen Graham, Paul Walter Hauser, Jeremy Strong, and Marc Maron.
In an interview with ScreenRant for Poker Face season 2, Hoffmann previews White’s performance in the role. Hoffman notes that she “didn’t actually get to see Jeremy embody Bruce” because her scenes were filmed with a younger version of the character. She did, however, preview Springsteen’s own reaction to White’s performance, noting that the musician “couldn’t believe that what he was hearing wasn’t his own voice.” She thinks White “really went for it.” Check out the full quote from Hoffmann below:
I have no information about [the release date], I’m sorry to say. I didn’t actually get to see Jeremy embody Bruce, because I play Bruce’s mom, so I’m in flashback scenes with a young Bruce. And I wasn’t around New York when they were filming, I just flew in and out, so I never had the chance to come and see him. But I’ve heard nothing but incredible things, which, of course, doesn’t surprise me at all. I’m not sure if I’m allowed to say this — but I guess I’m going to — I even heard that Bruce couldn’t believe that what he was hearing wasn’t his own voice when he heard Jeremy sing. I think it’s going to really be as impressive as everybody is expecting, because he is such a beautiful actor, and I think he really went for it, and it sounds like it’s going to be incredible. It was a great, great privilege to be a part of that film, and this story, and this very personal and important moment in Bruce’s life. I was very, very happy to be there, it was a beautiful experience.

Springsteen Has Provided A Reaction Before
Hoffmann’s quote is not the only glimpse given into Springsteen’s reaction so far. Earlier this year, the musician spoke with Sirius XM about the upcoming biopic, saying that White “sings very well.” Hoffmann’s quote goes even further, noting the power of the vocal imitation that White was doing on set, stunning even Springsteen himself. In his previous interview, Springsteen was also complimentary of the rest of the Deliver Me From Nowhere ensemble, saying “it’s a tremendous cast of people.”
It will be White’s performance that makes or breaks Deliver Me From Nowhere, as the biopic is centered around Springsteen and his work. As in a project like Rocketman, or other music biopics, the songs will be of a big appeal to the audience base, so it is especially essential that White delivers that part of the performance well. The star has shown his acting prowess through projects like The Bear, The Iron Claw, and Shameless, but he has not showcased his singing as much. From all the early reports, it sounds like he was successful.

It Has A Recent Powerhouse Film To Be Compared To
Deliver Me From Nowhere is expected to arrive this year in October. This release comes just under a year after that of A Complete Unknown, the Bob Dylan biopic that came out on Christmas 2024. Star Timothée Chalamet was nominated for Best Actor for this role, and the film was acclaimed overall, putting the pressure on this latest Springsteen biopic to deliver as well. The news about White’s performance is a promising start, but only time will tell as the wait for Deliver Me From Nowhere continues.
