James Gunn Addresses Superman Movie Runtime Rumors

James Gunn gives an update on the Superman movie runtime as the DC Universe movie gets closer to its summer release. With 2025’s summer season getting ready to kick off, Gunn’s Superman movie is one of the most highly anticipated films of the year, especially in the superhero genre. While DC Studios has been busy marketing Superman through merchandise reveals and releasing more footage, one of the mysteries that has yet to be properly addressed is how long the film will be for its theatrical release.

In the last few days, there have been numerous rumors about the runtime for Gunn’s Superman movie, and it didn’t take long for the filmmaker to respond on social media addressing if any of the recent rumblings are true. Check out his respective responses below:

Superman Runtime Addressed by James Gunn on Threads

On Threads, DCDomain asked, “Is the runtime for Superman locked? There’s rumours that it’s 2h2minutes.” Gunn stressed, “That is not correct. It’s almost totally locked – meaning we’re just finishing a couple VFX sH๏τs over the weekend – but that’s not the running time.”

On Instagram, a post from Gunnverse had claimed that Superman would be 2 hours and 20 minutes long. However, that is also not the case, as Gunn responded, “Nope! It will be the same all over the world (and it’s not 2:20).”

What James Gunn’s Response To the Superman Movie Runtime Rumors Means

Given how common it is for superhero movies to get swept up in rumors like what their runtimes are going to be, it’s no surprise that Gunn is making sure to address anything that is inaccurate about Superman, especially if the movie is still in the final stages of post-production. With Superman being the first film based on the Man of Steel in over a decade, it’s also not shocking that fans are actively wanting to know sooner rather than later what the runtime will be for the David Corenswet-starring movie. Whether the Superman movie’s runtime will be longer or shorter than past adaptations remains to be seen.

Superman’s runtime will only be revealed officially once the film is locked, which will likely be a little closer to the film’s July release. That is why, until then, any runtime listings that emerge from unreliable sources should not be considered fact, unless Gunn specifically says that it is accurate. Whether the official runtime will arrive in the next few weeks or close to when Superman debuts in theaters remains to be seen, as it all depends on when the film is a complete lock.

Our Take On James Gunn’s Response To the Superman Movie Runtime Rumors

With Gunn debunking the Superman runtime rumors, it serves as a great reminder about what makes his position at DC Studios unique, because he has this rapport with the fans online, especially during times when the narrative about various DCU projects is factually incorrect. This is also what is going to make the road for the DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” easier, as Gunn will, when he can, step in to make sure wild rumors aren’t being treated as facts. Hopefully, fans won’t have to wait much longer to find out how long Superman will be as the Man of Tomorrow gets ready for his cinematic return.
