Disney’s Lilo & Sтιтch Becomes Only The 4th Movie In 2025 To Hit Major Global Box Office Milestone

Disney’s Lilo & Sтιтch becomes only the fourth movie of 2025 to hit a major milestone at the global box office. A live-action remake of Disney’s 2002 animated movie of the same name, the new film follows the same story of a solitary Hawaiian girl who forms a bond with a fugitive alien. The Lilo & Sтιтch live-action remake features Chris Sanders reprising his voice role alongside Maia Kealoha, Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Hannah Waddingham, Courtney B. Vance, Zach Galifianakis, Tia Carrere, Amy Hill, and Jason Scott Lee.

Now, after just six days in theaters, the new Lilo & Sтιтch has pᴀssed the $400 million mark globally, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It becomes only the fourth movie of 2025 to hit that global box office milestone after China’s Ne Zha 2 ($1.8B), A Minecraft Movie ($941M), and Captain America: Brave New World ($415M). Lilo & Sтιтch has crossed $200 million domestically.

What Lilo & Sтιтch’s Box Office Milestones Mean For The Movie

They’re Just The Latest Milestones For The Remake

Lilo & Sтιтch pᴀssing $400 million globally and $200 million domestically are just the latest box office milestones for Disney’s live-action remake. Opening alongside Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning on May 23, Lilo & Sтιтch set a new box office record by earning an impressive $182.6 million over the four-day Memorial Day weekend, with $146 million coming from the traditional three-day span. Internationally, the live-action remake also outperformed projections, debuting with $178.6 million, bringing its global opening total to $361.2 million.

Now, in just six days, Lilo & Sтιтch has reached two more major milestones and is already outpacing the total lifetime grosses of several other Disney live-action remakes. It has also topped the entire global box office of 2002’s Lilo & Sтιтch, which made $273 million. Additionally, it’s currently outperforming A Minecraft Movie, which had earned $193 million domestically by its sixth day. In turn, if it keeps up this pace, Lilo & Sтιтch is clearly shaping up to be a $1 billion box office hit.

Our Take On Lilo & Sтιтch’s Box Office

It’s A Much-Needed Bounce Back For Disney’s Live-Action Remakes

Lilo & Sтιтch‘s box office represents a much-needed bounce-back for Disney’s live-action remakes after Snow White bombed earlier this year, grossing only $205 million against its mᴀssive $240–270 million budget. While Snow White received mostly negative reviews, indicated by its 40% Rotten Tomatoes score, Lilo & Sтιтch‘s reviews have been much more positive, resulting in a 69% score. Though the artistic value of Disney’s live-action remakes has always been a contentious topic, perhaps the solution is simply to make better movies.
