Warning: This article includes MAJOR SPOILERS for Fear Street: Prom Queen!
Although the Netflix movie primarily functions as a standalone, Fear Street: Prom Queen includes a mid-credits scene that reveals the Prom Killer’s biggest connection to the original Fear Street trilogy. In 2021, Netflix released three Fear Street movies in quick succession, and they quickly became a hit. Luckily, four years later, fans are back in the world of Shadyside with a new standalone Fear Street film. The Fear Street: Prom Queen trailer shows that the Shadyside High School prom is a bloody good time, with the film maintaining the violent and gory style of the original trilogy.
The Fear Street: Prom Queen characters don’t cross over with the 2021 movies, meaning viewers can enjoy the story without investing five and a half hours into watching the original trilogy. However, the story does include a few minor details that reference the past Fear Street movies. Flashbacks at the beginning of the film show the murders in Fear Street: Part Two – 1978, and a first responder at the end says, “It’s worse than ‘78.” Additionally, Fear Street: Prom Queen’s mid-credits scene hides the Prom Killer’s secret connection to the original Fear Street trilogy.
Nancy Falconer’s Blood Forms The Goode Family’s Witch’s Mark In Fear Street: Prom Queen’s Mid-Credits Scene
The Symbol In The Mid-Credits Scene Is Important To The Fear Street Trilogy
Fear Street: Prom Queen reveals the Falconers as a family of murderers determined to get Tiffany the Prom Queen тιтle. The end of Fear Street: Prom Queen includes a five-second mid-credits scene that shows the blood from Nancy’s head pooling out of her head on the ground and shaping into a round symbol with lines through the middle. The scene is brief, and it will mean nothing to viewers who haven’t seen the Fear Street trilogy. However, the scene hints that Nancy Falconer has a connection of some sort to the Goode family from the 2021 trilogy.
The symbol in question is the Witch’s Mark (also called the Devil’s mark), and it’s found underneath the Goode family house. Because of the Faustian bargain, the eldest male member of the Goode family would choose their victim to sacrifice at this symbol, who would then be turned into a killer. Additionally, the Witch’s Mark is also on the cover of the grimoire in Fear Street, which was stolen at the end of Fear Street: Part Three – 1666.
Did The Goode Family Cause Nancy Falconer’s Killer Turn?
The Symbol Could Hint That The Goode Family Turned Nancy Into A Killer
The most logical explanation for Fear Street: Prom Queen’s mid-credits scene is the fact that the Goode family turned her into a killer by sacrificing her to Satan. Unless they picked someone who was already a killer, the sacrifice would’ve had to happen before Camp Nightwing, since her first murder occurred around 1970, when she took Lori’s father’s life. At that time, Joseph Goode would have been the eldest male Goode. However, nothing in Fear Street: Prom Queen actually confirms that Nancy Falconer was a victim of the Goode family, as they don’t appear in the film.
Three more Fear Street movies are in development after Fear Street: Prom Queen according to R.L. Stine (via The Hollywood Reporter).
My personal theory about the mid-credits scene is that Nancy Falconer is actually a secret member of the Goode family. Fear Street: Prom Queen leans into the idea that family shapes who you become. Lori develops empathy and resilience because she grows up with a mother who is empathetic and resilient. Tiffany learns that murder is an acceptable answer because she was raised by killers. If Nancy were secretly a Goode, the message would be furthered, and the story would connect to the larger world of the Fear Street trilogy.
The Goode family might not be Fear Street’s serial killers, but they are certainly happy to create serial killers. They seem okay with the fact that multiple people will die. If Nancy had learned about the Goode family’s deal as a child, she would have been shaped by the idea that murder is acceptable. She would also have a connection to the Witch’s Mark through her family. Ultimately, there is no definite answer about why Nancy’s blood made the mark in Fear Street: Prom Queen, but it’s still fun to speculate about.
