The Toxic Avenger Teaser Sees Elijah Wood’s Monstercore Band Attacked By Peter Dinklage

The long-awaited dark superhero comedy reboot The Toxic Avenger is having a blast with its gory, outlandish teasers, and ScreenRant is pleased to present the most recent one. Formatted as an in-world documentary about the monstercore band The Killer Nutz (managed by Elijah Wood’s Fritz Garbinger), the newest teaser offers a sneak peek at Peter Dinklage’s Toxie in grotesque action.

Despite being the fifth film in the franchise, the newest Toxic Avenger installment adapts Troma Entertainment’s original 1984 movie rather than continuing the story. It follows meek janitor Winston Gooze (Dinklage) as he is transformed into the powerful and eponymous Toxic Avenger after a terrible accident. The movie was written and directed by Macon Blair, whose debut film was the well-received 2017 thriller I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore.

First screened at Fantastic Fest in September 2023, The Toxic Avenger is finally seeing a wider theatrical release on August 29 with distributor Cineverse (the studio behind the Terrifier franchise) and producer Legendary Entertainment. In addition to Dinklage and Wood, The Toxic Avenger also stars Kevin Bacon, Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, and Jane Levy. Check out ScreenRant’s exclusive first look at the new teaser here:

The Toxic Avenger’s Teasers Are As Chaotic As The Movie Promises To Be

The Film Offers An Extremely Gory (And Satisfying) Superhero Parody

The clip opens with a promo from the Nutz+ documentary “Becoming Nutz”, which teases a “chaotic concert the world will never forget” before introducing Fritz. Clad in his Riff Raff-adjacent aesthetic, Fritz bemoans that “it’s hard to keep [the band members] reigned in” as they are shown clowning around in their monster makeup. The tone takes a sharp turn for the crazy, however, when a news report blares allegations against the headache medicine BTH (Bi-Toxiphetamine Hydroxylate).

The next scene is Toxie approaching the concert in full swing, throwing his iconic weapon, and electrocuting the keyboard player. After that, what can ensue but a complete gorefest? It’s a teaser that perfectly encapsulates the tongue-in-cheek yet daring nature of the story, following in the footsteps of the previous marketing, emphasizing the dangers of BTH and highlighting the graphic fights.

1984’s The Toxic Avenger was already known for its satirization of the superhero genre, and it’s clear that the 2025 remake is honoring that tradition. It’s reminiscent of other current projects like The Boys, but the cinematic scope offers plenty more creative kill sH๏τs — and the entire Troma universe at its narrative fingertips.

The Toxic Avenger arrives in theaters on August 29.
