Chris Evans’ Captain America & Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow Return As Evil Versions Of Their MCU Heroes In Avengers: Doomsday Art

Avengers: Doomsday could use a set of Marvel Cinematic Universe stars breaking bad, like Robert Downey Jr., and that is what exciting new Avengers movie art suggests could work for Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson in the film. Downey has let go of Iron Man to play Doctor Doom in the next two Avengers movies, becoming the main villain of the Multiverse Saga. There are rumors that other Avengers franchise stars could be following suit, and Evans is reportedly part of Avengers: Doomsday‘s cast, even if Marvel did not officially announce it.

On Instagram, @welove__marvel shared what Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson could look like as the MCU’s Captain Hydra and Madame Hydra in Avengers: Doomsday.

Captain Hydra has been rumored to be Evans’ mysterious role in the film ever since the reports that the actor would be part of Avengers: Doomsday‘s story came out. Johansson playing Madame Hydra would allow the MCU to bring back the chemistry the actors shared in the Avengers and Captain America movies. So far, no reports about the actress’ involvement with the movie have emerged.

Could Chris Evans And Scarlett Johansson Appear In Avengers: Doomsday As Villains?

The Multiverse Saga Opens The Door To Exciting Possibilities

With Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell reported to be part of Avengers: Doomday‘s cast, it seems like Marvel could be keeping their returns a secret for the time being. After all, the actors were not among the names revealed for the film during the live-streamed event Marvel held to unveil Avengers: Doomsday‘s cast. Given how Evans and Atwell were seen in Avengers: Endgame‘s ending as Peggy Carter and Steve Rogers when Captain America decided to stay in the past with her, if they are both back as reports claim, it could be as those versions of the characters.

As for the MCU’s Black Widow star, Scarlett Johansson claimed she is not in Avengers: Doomsday during an interview with Vanity Fair. That said, Johansson’s comments were about how returning as Black Widow would not make sense for her since Natasha Romanoff’s story had been given a definitive ending by the MCU. As Madame Hydra or another evil version of the character, Johansson would be playing an alternate universe’s Natasha, so that would not impact her MCU ending. Evans could also be pulling double duty in the film, with Captain America and Captain Hydra perhaps even facing each other.

Our Take On Whether Chris Evans And Scarlett Johansson Could Appear In Avengers: Doomsday As Villains

Doctor Doom Will Need Some Help In Avengers: Doomsday

Based on Avengers: Doomsday‘s cast, Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom will have his hands full in the 2026 MCU movie. The villain will be going up against superhero teams like Sam Wilson’s Avengers, Fox’s original X-Men, the Fantastic Four, the New Avengers (formerly the Thunderbolts), and more. As such, I believe that Downey’s Doctor Doom will need a team of his own. What better way than to have Evans, Johansson, and the rest of the original Avengers cast return with the actors playing villains? This would allow Doom’s team to be as epic, fitting what Avengers: Doomsday needs to be.
