Mark Wahlberg Movie With 82% Rotten Tomatoes Score Hits Netflix’s Top 10 Charts 7 Years Later

A Mark Wahlberg movie with an 82% Rotten Tomatoes score climbs Netflix’s top 10 global chart. Initially starting out as a teen pop idol in the 1990s, Wahlberg has become an acclaimed action actor over the years. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Martin Scorsese’s The Departed, where he starred alongside Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Vera Farmiga, and Alec Baldwin. His performances in Boogie Nights and The Fighter have also received critical acclaim.

Netflix is home to many of the actor’s movies, with some made for the platform, including The Union and Spenser Confidential. Both have topped several of the streamers’ charts during their releases. In addition to starring in The Union, Wahlberg also served as a producer. The Union proved to be a hit, remaining the most-watched movie for two consecutive weeks after its release.

Mark Wahlberg’s Instant Family Lands On Netflix’s Global Chart

Instant Family Has Gained Traction Within Days

The 2018 family comedy, Instant Family, stars Wahlberg as Pete Wagner and Rose Byrne as his wife Ellie, who became an instant family of five when they unexpectedly adopted three siblings, including one rebellious 15-year-old played by The Last of Us star Isabela Merced. The feel-good family movie grossed over twice its production cost during its theatrical run and has received generally positive reviews.

Instant Family has climbed Netflix’s top 10 global weekly chart after its recent arrival on the platform. Within a week, the movie has garnered 3.3 million views, putting it at no. 6 on Netflix’s global chat this week. The top of the list is currently occupied by Vince Vaughn’s Nonnas, which has over 20 million views since its release earlier this month.

Despite not being considered a critically acclaimed masterpiece or a box office smash hit, Wahlberg’s 2018 family comedy performed well at the box office and has been generally well-received by critics and fans alike. Having starred in successful Netflix movies in the past, it seems that his past collaborations with the streamer may have paved the way for Instant Family‘s success, allowing audiences to rediscover some of the actor’s lesser-known movies.

Lately, several movies released ten or more years ago have achieved streaming success, including Angelina Jolie’s 2002 rom-com flop, Life or Something Like It, Taylor Sheridan and Denis Villeneuve’s 2015 thriller Sicario, and Gene Hackman’s Runaway Jury. It seems that the streamer’s content strategy to introduce more classic movies is certainly working very well for the platform.
