Ian McShane, who plays Winston in all four films of the John Wick franchise, shares hope for his return in the fifth installment. Despite having seemingly met his demise in John Wick: Chapter 4, Keanu Reeves’ тιтular ᴀssᴀssin was confirmed to return alongside director Chad Stahelski in confirmed John Wick: Chapter 5, a sequel that focuses on a new chapter of Wick’s life. Winston, who was revealed to be his father at the end of the fourth movie, has been a resourceful ᴀsset for the ᴀssᴀssin.
In an interview with Collider, McShane addressed whether he’d return for John Wick: Chapter 5. The star shared that he has had a “great 11 years” working with the crew and cast in the franchise, and it would be “a very nice thing” to return if they decided to involve Winston in the movie. He emphasized how the franchise’s cast and crew are “like a family” after so many years of the same individuals working together. Read his comments below:
If I’m still around, but they decide to do it, that would be a very nice thing. Yeah, I’ve loved it so far. It’s been a great, great 11 years. And, and as I said, it’s sort of like a family because we same director, same pH๏τographer, much the same actors with editions down again. But yeah, it’s been a good trip so far.
What Ian McShane’s Comment Means For John Wick: Chapter 5
Winston’s Return Is Still In The Air, But Ian McShane Is Hopeful
John Wick has finally freed himself from the High Table at the end of John Wick: Chapter 4, although it may look like he has died. The protagonist isn’t likely to return home, which means that there’s a chance that Winston might not be in his next adventure, despite being a staple in the High Table chapter. Stahelski has recently teased his hope to shoot the fifth installment in the Middle East, China, and Africa, which again signals that the franchise is expanding beyond New York.
McShane’s comments also seem to indicate that while he would love to be part of Wick’s next adventure, it’s not up to him to decide. On the other hand, Winston will return in the upcoming Ballerina spinoff, which revolves around Ana de Armas’ newly trained ᴀssᴀssin, who runs into the Baba Yaga on her path to revenge.
Our Take On Winston’s Return In John Wick: Chapter 5
It’s Not Impossible For Winston To Be In John Wick 5
It’s hard to imagine a John Wick movie without Winston, especially after the Star Wars-level reveal. Even if McShane would only be in one frame, it’d still be a nice surprise for fans. Wick and Winston’s story arc is also nowhere near complete. Despite the father-son reveal that shocked audiences, Winston has yet to tell the truth about his idenтιтy to Wick (unless he did it off-screen).
John Wick 5 needs Winston, and story-wise, it’s not impossible. With the former Continental H๏τel owner being a resourceful man within the High Table enterprise, there are many scenarios in which John Wick might reach out to him for help. Meanwhile, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina will arrive in theaters on June 6, featuring fan-favorite characters who were still alive between Chapter 4 and Chapter 3.
