Final Destination Bloodlines Producer Weighs In On Whether The Newspaper Headlines In End Credit Teases The Franchise’s Future

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Final Destination Bloodlines.Final Destination Bloodlines producer Craig Perry addresses whether the movie’s end credits set up the next story in the franchise. Released in theaters on May 16, the sixth installment in the Final Destination franchise explores another catastrophe and those who shouldn’t have survived. However, unlike in the previous films, all casualties were effectively prevented, leading Death to eliminate bloodlines that shouldn’t have ever existed over the years. The movie’s rolling credits consist of newspaper headlines of those incidents.

In an interview with ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, Perry, who has worked as a producer since the first Final Destination movie, talks about the end credits and the franchise’s future. He explained that Bloodlines expands the scale of Death’s plan, which “liberated” the movie and allowed them to make connections between different places in time, as seen in the end credits. By doing so, Perry hoped that it would allow future films to feature “even more interesting and creative deaths.” Read his comments below when asked whether the newspaper headlines are just for fun:

It’s both. It was both fun, we wanted to show that there’s all kinds of things happening at any given moment that you might wonder whether Death has his hand in orchestrating. But because we’ve explored the idea of a prequel with one of the other movies—and I’ll let the fans find out which one that is if they haven’t seen it—that’s one of the things that Jon Watts, by bringing in the idea of starting in the ’60s and jumping forward 50 years, I think has liberated us creatively to be able to go to a lot of different places in time and to make connections that we wouldn’t have been able to do otherwise. And I think that expansion, that sort of satellite view of the plan, I think is going to hopefully allow us an opportunity in the future to have even more interesting and creative deaths for the fans to enjoy.

What This Means For The Final Destination Franchise

The End Credits Tease More Surprising Deaths

Based on the producer’s comments, it sounds like the end credits don’t directly set up a follow-up sequel or prequel, but act as a teaser for more creative deaths that could be featured in future films. Despite revolving around a mᴀssive, multi-generational story, Final Destination Bloodlines doesn’t have a credits scene. In the same interview, Perry also explains that because of the 14-year gap between the fifth and sixth installments, they made a choice not to heavily connect this movie to the previous ones.

Instead, the movie acts as a reboot to introduce the franchise to the new generation of horror fans while casually dropping a few Final Destination Easter eggs along the way, including a name-drop of AJ Cook’s Kimberly. On the subject of the actor’s potential return, the producer teased that “the door is clearly open.” He also explained that the reason Death took so long, leaving a trail of newspaper headlines over decades, is that simultaneously eliminating all Skyview survivors would be too obvious.

Our Take On Final Destination Bloodlines’ End Credits And Future

Final Destination Bloodlines’ End Credits Are A Brilliant Touch For This Film

The end credits are certainly able to fill up some blank space left by the lack of mid and post-credits, but they still exist mainly to serve the movie instead of setting up a sequel or prequel. The movie’s co-directors, Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, have been vocal about their lack of plans for the next movie unless there is a demand.

Judging by Final Destination Bloodlines‘ mᴀssive box-office success during the opening weekend, grossing over $51 million domestically and $102 million globally against a $50 million production budget, it seems that there’s a high chance for another movie. Perry’s comments also further offer hope for the franchise to continue without repeating what has already been done.
