After Sentry’s MCU Debut, I Need A Movie Adaptation Of Marvel’s Biggest Hulk Vs Sentry Fight Now More Than Ever

Now that the Sentry has arrived in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)

, it’s time to have the character face off against someone who could really stand to match his incredible power, the Hulk. Sentry is a beast of a new superhero. In Thunderbolts*, he is repeatedly referred to as having powers that match the output of 10,000 exploding suns. And when he makes his debut, he proves his extraordinary strength by easily dealing with the entire team of The New Avengers, which includes three super soldiers, a Black Widow ᴀssᴀssin, and a quantum realm-shifting super spy.

However, while Sentry is said to have power greater than that of the original Avengers, or the gods themselves, he hasn’t been tested in the MCU against a powerful rival. Sure, The New Avengers are formidable, but they are not on the same level as some of the other heroes who initially earned the тιтle of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. But now that Sentry has arrived in the MCU, it could be the perfect time to pit him against a character that he competes with in the comics, the Hulk.

Sentry’s MCU Debut Makes A Lot Of Marvel Comic Storylines Possible

Sentry Has A Colorful Past In Marvel Comics

Now, Thunderbolts* was not exactly comic-accurate in their approach to introducing the Sentry to the world. In Marvel Comics, when Sentry was first introduced, there was an elaborate hoax that the comics played out in order to hype up the character, stating that Sentry was actually one of the first characters ever designed under the brand, but he was forgotten before ever going to print. This lined up with the comics, because Sentry was set up as a hero who was erased from the minds of everyone, including the heroes he fought alongside and trained, in order to keep the world safe from the threat of his nemesis, the Void.

But beyond that, Sentry has a lot of comic storylines where he plays an important role in working with teams like the actual comic book Thunderbolts, as opposed to The New Avengers, who appear in the MCU. He also makes an appearance in stories like World War Hulk, where this powerhouse character goes head-to-head with the Green Goliath. And despite having an array of powers, Sentry finds himself in a tough spot fighting the Hulk. Of course, Sentry has plenty of other crossovers and storylines that could be explored, but if I’m honest, I want to see this almighty hero actually break a sweat.

I Need A World War Hulk Adaptation To See The Sentry Vs Hulk Fight In The MCU

World War Hulk Is The Perfect Story To Test Sentry In The MCU

The thing is, Sentry being a mega hero who could wipe out anyone is boring. If that were the case, there would be no more need for the MCU stories, because Sentry would just swoop in, save the day, and move on. But thankfully, the MCU has incorporated the all-important detail of Sentry’s split personality, and his dark alter-ego known as the Void. Due to this intense darkness, Bob Reynolds appears to be incredibly reluctant to tap into his powers, for fear that he will free the Void and wreak chaos on the world.

But, I don’t want Sentry to never reappear again either. Now that he exists, he needs to return in a moment of need, and Bob needs to get better at controlling and protecting his mental state in order to avoid turning into the Void. So, why not take the character and put him in a position where he is Earth’s last hope to stop the enraged Hulk from utterly destroying Earth and its inhabitants? In the comics, this is exactly what Bob Reynolds does when he fights Hulk and causes him to revert to becoming Bruce Banner.

The MCU Could Make A World War Hulk Movie By Borrowing A Previous Film Approach

World War Hulk Could Be The Next Avengers Movie In The MCU

In order for the World War Hulk narrative to work, Hulk needs to be put into a situation where he becomes deeply enraged. In the comics, his pregnant wife dies while traveling away from the Earth in an Illuminati ship. Hulk blames the IIlluminati, not only for the explosion, but for forcing them to travel away in the first place due to being exiled. Hulk swears revenge, and he travels back to Earth to destroy the world and everything the Illuminati hold dear. While the Illuminati could reappear after the events of Doctor Strange in the Multivere of Madness, it makes more sense for the MCU to make this an Avengers movie.

Perhaps the world deems Bruce Banner and all other Hulks too dangerous after President Ross became the Red Hulk. Then Banner is forced to leave Earth for Sakaar, but his family may be injured or killed along the way. This could be the spark that brings the rage-filled Hulk back to the surface, and cause him to return to Earth with a vendetta. And, of course, this would ultimately lead to Earth being in immense danger, and teams like either Avengers group struggling to stop him from wreaking havoc, which means Bob is the Earth’s last hope.

Why A World War Hulk Story Would Be Perfect For The Current MCU

Hulk Deserves More Of The Spotlight In The MCU

As it stands, the MCU has been in kind of a freefall for some time. Characters like Smart Hulk have not been well-received, and fans are desperate to see the angry Hulk return. Meanwhile, there has been very little by way of team-up movies, which leads to a further disconnect between the stories and characters that exist in this world. But if a story like World War Hulk was to play out, it could fix both of those issues in a way that is tense, thrilling, and compelling. And it would be the perfect test of Sentry’s powers after Bob initially succumbed to the Void.

There is potential for Sentry and Hulk to showdown soon in the MCU.

If Bob can control his Sentry abilities enough to use his powers and defeat the Hulk, this would make him a much more useful hero to go up against other villains as the MCU continues to expand. However, juggling this narrative in would likely be impacted by whatever events are about to take place in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Potentially, the World War Hulk plot could be an inciting incident for either of those movies, but it would likely be just a small part of the larger story if it is. However, there is potential for Sentry and Hulk to showdown soon in the MCU, either as part of World War Hulk or something a little different.
