We Asked Luke Skywalker Himself About His New Jedi Order & The Mandalorian Era (Yes, You Read That Right)

There are still some question marks surrounding Luke Skywalker’s full journey during The Mandalorian era. However, we just learned some intriguing new details from the Jedi Master himself (sort of). While we do know the basics regarding what Luke was up to during this time, Disney currently provides a rather unique and real-life means of learning more about his New Republic history, straight from the Jedi Master’s own words.

So far, the era of New Republic shows has had two Luke Skywalker appearances in both The Mandalorian season 2 and The Book of Boba Fett. Both roles featured the Jedi Master at the height of his power following the events of the original Star Wars trilogy, though there are still some lore gaps during this period between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. Here’s what Screen Rant recently learned about Luke Skywalker, and how we learned it directly from the iconic Star Wars character himself (and no, we don’t mean Mark Hamill).

Debuting During Disney’s Season of the Force 2025

Luke Skywalker in Galaxy's Edge with R2-D2

Having made his first-ever debut in Galaxy’s Edge this year, Luke Skywalker began roaming the streets of Batuu as part of “Season of the Force”, Disneyland’s annual Star Wars-themed celebration. Originally, the Star Wars-themed land was meant to be set on a singular day in the Star Wars canon, taking place between the sequel era’s The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker. As such, both Resistance heroes and First Order villains are primarily featured walking around the Outer Rim planet, maintaining their respective bases near Black Spire Outpost.

That said, recent years have seen Disney and Lucasfilm extending the canonical window to the earlier New Republic era, allowing characters like Din Djarin, Grogu, Boba Fett, Fennec Shand, and Ahsoka Tano to roam in certain regions of Galaxy’s Edge. Thanks to his own appearances in the aforementioned New Republic shows, Luke Skywalker began serving as a Star Wars character for guests to encounter beginning in April 2025. This was notably aligned with Disneyland’s various late-night Star Wars events which ran on select evenings between April and May.

A Galactic Interview: What Luke Skywalker Told Us About His Current Mission

(And What It Means For The Star Wars Canon)

Luke Skywalker At Galaxy's Edge Season of the Force 2025

Screen Rant was in attendance for one of these special Star Wars events, and a meeting with the newly arrived Luke Skywalker himself was certainly warranted. After all, Disney cast members undergo some intense in-depth training when playing a character, pre-preparing accurate responses and answers based upon their character’s actual knowledge and how they’d most likely react to guests’ questions and comments. In Luke Skywalker’s case, this meant there was a fun and rare opportunity to ask the Jedi Master about his current mission on Batuu, as well as his other known activities during the New Republic Era.

When asked if he’d started to build his Jedi academy on Ossus, shown in The Book of Boba Fett, Luke Skywalker replied that he hadn’t yet begun his attempt at a New Jedi Order. This was because he was still searching for sacred Jedi texts and relics. As such, this helps clarify the timing of Luke Skywalker’s now-canonical visit to Batuu, taking place before the events of the Star Wars series, and likely before his appearance in The Mandalorian season 2 as well.

Additionally, Luke Skywalker also revealed that he could sense the strong energy surrounding the planet of Batuu. This supports the idea that Batuu canonically held a vergence in the Force, sites of strong power in the light or dark side Jedi and Sith would study and often draw power from across the galaxy. Likewise, the Jedi Master also confirmed he’d come to Black Spire Outpost seeking any information or texts from the Jedi Order, wanting to learn more about those who came before him.

What We Know About The Jedi Order’s History With Batuu

The Jedi Had A Temple Near Black Spire Outpost

Luke Skywalker’s new comments about his Batuu mission tie perfectly with what we already know about Galaxy’s Edge and the planet’s canonical history with the Jedi Order. During the High Republic Era, the Jedi had a temple on Batuu located near Black Spire Outpost, resembling a smaller version of the primary Jedi Temple on Coruscant while uniquely having one of the planet’s petrified tree spires standing tall at the center of the structure. This connects very well to Luke’s comments about feeling a strong energy on the planet, as Jedi Temples were often built near vergences in the Force.

Likewise, Dok-Ondar possesses various Jedi relics in his shop, which were canonically claimed by the antiquities dealer from the ruins of this temple years after it was abandoned by the Jedi Order. Black Spire Outpost is also the home of The Gatherers, a secret group of non-Jedi Force worshipers who use various pieces of metal and a secret store of kyber crystals for the construction of lightsabers. These ruins near Black Spire Outpost were also turned into a base for the Resistance, as seen when guests walk through the queue for the Rise of the Resistance ride at Galaxy’s Edge.

At any rate, it was pretty cool to essentially “interview” Luke Skywalker and learn more about his New Republic journey at Galaxy’s Edge. Likewise, seeing how his responses were canonically woven into the known history of Galaxy’s Edge in the Star Wars continuity was especially fun. It certainly makes him a great new addition to the Star Wars-themed land, and perhaps we’ll one day learn even more about Luke Skywalker’s time on Batuu if it’s ever referenced or shown in future Star Wars projects.
