As the story prepares to take a darker turn in Wicked: For Good, there is an opportunity to deepen both Elphaba’s rebellion and Glinda’s transformation by drawing from the rich lore of the original book. From forgotten family members to political insiders, there are several supporting characters who could still show up to raise the emotional stakes or complicate the moral landscapes of Oz.

The first film focused primarily on the relationship and ideological falling out between Elphaba and Glinda, but the sequel will most likely need to expand its scope. As war brews and the Wizard тιԍнтens his grip on society, Wicked: For Good could benefit from exploring how the past shaped the present, particularly through characters who were vital in the book but have been absent from the film adaptation so far. Whether they appear in flashbacks, cameos, or full subplots, these characters could be an interesting addition to the upcoming sequel.

Avaric Tenmeadows

Frenemy Of Elphaba

In the book, Avaric is a Gillikinese smooth-talking aristocrat, son of the Margreave of Tenmeadows​​​ and Boq’s roommate and friend, although Boq seems to be jealous of him. He once accompanied Elphaba and Boq on a trip at Boq’s request, but disliked Elphaba from the beginning, and the two became frenemies from then on. While Elphaba questions authority and fights injustice, Avaric benefits from it and lives comfortably under the Wizard’s regime.

Later in the novel, what will be Wicked: For Good, Avaric becomes the Margreave of Tenmeadows and is married, living at a house in Shiz. Elphaba then goes to him and tells him that she killed Madam Morrible. Although he says he doesn’t remember Elphaba, he keeps her around for a dinner party and later tells her that he doesn’t believe she killed Morrible. What makes Avaric such a compelling addition is his embodiment of the allure of power and social status.

A bigger role in the sequel could serve as a dose of political cynicism and a stark contrast to Elphaba’s idealism. If he appears in For Good, his presence would not only heighten the political intrigue but also explore how Elphaba’s classmates wound up on vastly different paths. He represents the kind of privilege and quiet complicity that keeps a regime afloat, making him an appropriate addition to the story.

Ama Clutch

Glinda’s Former Nanny

Ama Clutch is Glinda’s chaperone and former nanny who accompanies her to Shiz University. In the film, her name was found on the dorm list as an Easter egg, but she didn’t make an appearance. As her chaperone, Ama could provide a glimpse into the sheltered world Glinda came from. In the novel, Ama suffers a mysterious stroke after possibly being cursed or magically silenced when she witnesses the killing of Dr. Dillamond at Madame Morrible’s orders. Glinda is able to break the spell and learn the truth of Dillamond’s death. However, Clutch would pᴀss soon after.

Her death leaves a lasting emotional wound for Glinda, as she loses one of the few people who genuinely cared for her without an agenda. If the second movie chooses to explore more of Glinda’s arc and how she begins to question authority, Ama Clutch could reappear in a scene depicting her decline or in flashbacks that explore Glinda’s earlier life and the mentors that shaped her perspective.

Including her would add an extra emotional layer to Glinda’s arc, especially as she begins to question the power structures she once trusted after Ama Clutch’s pᴀssing. Ama’s decline and eventual death could also symbolize the costs of turning a blind eye to corruption, something Glinda must reckon with as she rises through Oz’s political ranks.

Liir Ko Thropp

Elphaba And Fiyero’s Son

Liir is first seen in the first book when he accompanies Elphaba to The Vinkus. He is Elphaba and Fiyero’s illegitimate son and a central character in the second book of the Wicked Years series, Son of a Witch. He was born in mysterious circumstances. Elphaba was in a year-long coma while at a local monastic convent, as she was left severely traumatized after her lover Fiyero’s murder. When she wakes up, she finds out she gave birth to Liir, whom she is not even sure is hers due to being unconscious during the labor and never treats him as such.

Liir does not appear at all in the Wicked Broadway musical, likely due to time constraints and the show’s focus on Elphaba and Glinda’s relationship. However, the two-part film adaptation presents a special opportunity to introduce him. As Wicked: For Good will explore the fallout of Elphaba’s rebellion, Liir could be easily introduced either as a hidden legacy, a surprise reveal, or a subplot that ties to the emotional consequences of Elphaba’s story.

Including Liir wouldn’t just be faithful to the novels, it would open the door to exploring Elphaba’s humanity and her relationship with Fiyero in a different light. Additionally, it could kick off a film adaptation of the rest of the Wicked Years ​​​​​​book series.

Ilianora/Princess Nor Tigelaar

Fiyero’s Daughter

Ilianora, originally known as Nor Tigelaar, is the youngest child of Fiyero and his wife Sarima, whom, in the book, he married at the age of seven, though he would not take up full marital duties until he was 20. Nor grows up in Fiyero’s hometown of Kiamo Ko with her siblings, living a relatively secluded life until Elphaba arrives with Liir seeking refuge. Nor forms a connection with Liir and Elphaba and is fascinated by her magic and broom. However, their quiet life would be disrupted when the Wizard’s forces take her and her family prisoner.

This haunts Elphaba and drives her into an obsessive quest to find Nor, which fuels much of her motivation in the second half of the book. In the musical, Fiyero is briefly engaged to Glinda, but the engagement is announced by Madame Morrible, leaving Fiyero unaware of it until that moment. Ultimately, Fiyero comes to realize that he loves Elphaba and decides to leave Glinda to be with her. At the end of the musical, Fiyero and Elphaba escape Oz together.

Although Nor is not featured in the musical, which the movie takes great inspiration from, her inclusion in the film could enrich the story’s emotional core and raise Elphaba’s stakes. Since the film is already expanding beyond the musical’s constraints, there’s room to incorporate characters from the book that have been left out in previous adaptations. Ilianora would not only deepen Elphaba’s storyline, but also serve as a reminder of what’s at risk in the fight against tyranny.

Sir Chuffrey

Glinda’s Husband

Sir Chuffrey may not be a household name, but his role in the Wicked books marks a pivotal moment in Glinda’s story. A wealthy Paltos baronet and businessman from Emerald City, Sir Chuffrey married Glinda once she completed her sorcery degree, giving her the тιтle of Lady as well as great wealth and prominence among the social circles of the Emerald City. It is thanks to her philanthropy, as she makes generous donations while working in tandem with her husband’s businesses around Oz, that she gets the nickname “Glinda the Good,” as it is said that wherever he does business, she does good.

His character will likely appear in the sequel as he serves as a subtle way of showing how Glinda’s ideals shift over time. In fact, there was a glimpse of Glinda in a wedding dress in the Wicked: Part One‘s first look trailer. Sir Chuffrey’s role in the sequel wouldn’t require much screen time, but his impact would be significant. He reflects Glinda’s internal compromise, as while Elphaba chooses rebellion, she chooses diplomacy, even if it means aligning with questionable authorities.

Glinda’s relationship with Sir Chauffrey would also serve as a visual and emotional contrast to Elphaba’s solitary journey, showing exactly how the two women diverge, not just in ideology, but in the lives they choose to build in Wicked: For Good.
