Mortal Kombat 2 Is Almost Certainly Going To Include A Mᴀssive Video Game Location That No Other MK Movie Has

I’m confident that Mortal Kombat 2 will include a video game location that all the other live-action movies have ignored. The highly anticipated sequel, which is set for an October 25, 2025 release date, will pick up not that long after the intense ending of 2021’s Mortal Kombat, in which Shang Tsung and other Outworld enemies failed to kill Earthrealm’s warriors before the tournament. After this failure, the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2 will feature Shao Kahn, the menacing emperor of Outworld. In addition to Shao Kahn, many other characters will appear in Mortal Kombat 2.

Seeing many of the franchise’s most popular characters fight in an actual Mortal Kombat tournament will likely make the sequel much more exciting than the first movie. While the first film was primarily set in Earthrealm and only featured a few scenes set in Outworld, Mortal Kombat 2 will show more of the dangerous realm. In addition to Outworld, I think Mortal Kombat 2 will also feature another important location from the video games. Based on the characters in the film, I’m confident that the world of Edenia will be featured in Mortal Kombat 2.

The Mortal Kombat Movies Have Never Included Edenia, 1 Of The 6 Main Realms

Edenia Is An Important Realm In The Mortal Kombat Games

Edenia is a realm from the Mortal Kombat video games that hasn’t appeared in any of the live-action movies. All the live-action Mortal Kombat movies have mostly focused on Earthrealm, Outworld, and Netherrealm, but it seems like that is finally going to change in the upcoming sequel. In addition to the four aforementioned realms, the Mortal Kombat universe also includes Chaosrealm and Orderrealm. These are the six main realms in the franchise, so it’s about time the movies started featuring them more.

In the Mortal Kombat games, Edenia is a beautiful realm that is inspired by the Garden of Eden. Edenia is full of lush forests and stunning waterfalls, which differentiates it from realms like Outworld and Netherrealm. While these two places can be quite desolate and dangerous, Edenia is full of beauty and is far safer. The Edenians are a human-like race, but have longer lifespans and magical abilities. Several Edenians are very strong, but couldn’t stop their realm from being invaded in the story of the games.

Mortal Kombat 2’s Cast Suggests Edenia Will Be A Major Part Of The Story

Several Edenians Are Confirmed For Mortal Kombat 2

In the games, Edenia loses ten Mortal Kombat tournaments to Outworld, which means that Shao Kahn has the chance to invade it and merge it with his realm. During his invasion, Shao Kahn kills Jerrod, the king of Edenia, and lays claim over his wife and daughter, Sindel and Kitana. Shao Kahn decides to marry Sindel to solidify his power over Edenia. While none of these characters appeared in the 2021 film, Jerrod, Sindel, Kitana, and Jade, another Edenian, are confirmed to appear in Mortal Kombat 2.

The fact that King Jerrod will have a role in Mortal Kombat 2 convinces me that we will see Edenia just before Shao Kahn attacks.

Because of this, I would be shocked if Mortal Kombat 2 doesn’t feature Edenia. After the invasion, Edenia is not seen much since it merges with Outworld. Therefore, it’s not a guarantee that Edenia will be in the sequel. However, the fact that King Jerrod will have a role in Mortal Kombat 2 convinces me that we will see Edenia just before Shao Kahn attacks. More than likely, glimpses of Shao Kahn’s Edenia invasion will be shown in Mortal Kombat 2, and he will also probably execute Jerrod in the film.

Edenia’s Introduction In Mortal Kombat 2 Can Build On Mortal Kombat 2021’s Ending

Shao Kahn Will Be A Ruthless Villain In Mortal Kombat 2

Mortal Kombat 2 Shao Kahn (1)

In the 2021 reboot movie, Shao Kahn is the one who sends Shang Tsung to Earthrealm to defeat its best warriors before the actual tournament begins. Since Shao Kahn’s original plan to weaken Earthrealm fails, he will have to be prepared to fight in Mortal Kombat 2. During the first film, characters like Cole Young, Sonya Blade, and Jax Briggs all unlock their arcanas. Additionally, Cole Young sets out to recruit Johnny Cage, who will be played by Karl Urban in the sequel.

Since Earthrealm’s warriors will be stronger than ever and united as a team heading into the Mortal Kombat tournament, it would make sense for Shao Kahn to invade Edenia to grow his army and recruit more warriors for Outworld. Despite their home being invaded, both Kitana and Jade will surely fight for Shao Kahn and Outworld in Mortal Kombat 2. Therefore, even though Earthrealm’s warriors will be prepared for the fight of their lives in the sequel, Outworld will also be stronger than ever.

How Edenia Can Help Mortal Kombat 2 Stand Apart From Other MK Movies

Edenia Will Be A Unique Setting In Mortal Kombat 2

Since the 2021 film was mostly set on Earth, I can’t wait to see more of Outworld and potentially other realms in Mortal Kombat 2. Earth is definitely a very important location in the franchise, but there are a lot of fantastical elements in the games that should be further explored in Mortal Kombat movies. Obviously, a lot of these fantastical elements come from other realms. Outworld and Netherrrealm have been featured before, but Edenia is a brand-new place that will differentiate Mortal Kombat 2 from the other films.

It’s tough to predict how much of Edenia to be shown in the sequel, but just showing some glimpses of the realm before it merges with Outworld will showcase how big the Mortal Kombat universe is. Even though most Mortal Kombat movies and games depict tournaments fought between Earthrealm and Outworld, with characters from Netherreealm also featured, it will be refreshing to see a brand-new, unique realm in the upcoming film. Including Edenia will not only allow Mortal Kombat 2 to explore a unique location, but it will also lead to the introduction of several captivating characters.

Showing Shao Kahn invade Edenia and killing King Jerrod will allow Mortal Kombat 2 to explore more complex character dynamics. At the beginning of the tournament, Earthrealm’s warriors will likely think that Sindel and Kitana are loyal to Shao Kahn, but their backstory obviously suggests otherwise. Kitana, in particular, could be a useful ally for Earthrealm’s warriors in Mortal Kombat 2 or a future movie. Therefore, the inclusion of Edenia would open up many exciting possibilities for Mortal Kombat 2 and potentially help make it the best live-action movie in the franchise.
