James Gunn’s Superman Official Trailer: The New DCU Expands With Justice Gang, Political Lex Luthor & An Immigrant Superman

The wait for the new look at James Gunn’s Superman is over. David Corenswet’s Man of Steel leads the first movie in the new DC Universe. The film faces a lot of pressure, not only due to how it needs to show DC is moving away from the final divisive releases of the DCEU, but because Gunn has already said that his plans for the DCU’s Chapter One and beyond hinge on Superman‘s success. After a few teasers and behind-the-scenes videos, the most in-depth look at the Superman movie’s story and characters is now out.

DC has released a new trailer for David Corenswet’s Superman movie.

The trailer reveals how many players in Superman‘s star-studded cast factor into the movie. There are plenty of action sequences showing Corenswet’s Superman in action, as well as the powers of heroes like Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern Guy Gardner, and villains like María Gabriela de Faría’s Engineer. Clark Kent and Lois Lane’s relationship is spotlighted, showing how it will be crucial to the movie, and Superman’s actions land him in trouble.

Previously, DC Studios shared an official poster for Superman, showing Corenswet’s Man of Steel standing tall.

What The New DCU Superman Movie Trailer Reveals

David Corenswet’s Man Of Steel Will Have To Face A Lot Of Threats

The new Superman movie trailer finally reveals what the setup for the DCU movie is. David Corenswet’s Superman chose to intervene in a war in another country. That has complicated things for him, given how it was seen by the world as a sign of the United States acting, and not Superman on his own. Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor is one of those furious with his actions, as is Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr., who is in charge of detaining Superman. Even the citizens Clark Kent defends have turned against him in the trailer.

Another major reveal is the fact that Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane is well aware that Clark Kent is Superman. The reveal comes early in the trailer, with Clark agreeing to do an interview with her as Superman. Lex Luthor and the Engineer invade Superman’s Fortress of Solitude, the Man of Steel stops a kaiju in Metropolis, and the Justice Gang — the other DCU heroes in the movie — show off their powers in multiple scenes. James Gunn’s Superman movie will follow the hero fighting for what he believes is right and facing the consequences.

Our Take On The New DCU Superman Movie Trailer

Clark Kent Could Not Be In Better Hands

I was already hopeful that the DCU’s Superman movie would do right by the character’s comic book persona. After having watched the new Superman movie trailer, I have no doubt that this film is everything I had hoped for. The story is about a hero who does not care about borders when all that matters is saving as many people as possible. Lex Luthor’s comment about how Superman is not even human resonates to that effect. Corenswet is pitch-perfect as both Clark and Superman, having great chemistry with Brosnahan’s Lois. Superman looks like a thrilling blockbuster that understands the hero.
