The new A24 horror movie is performing well on Rotten Tomatoes. A24 is an independent entertainment company that first became known for distributing unique and offbeat films. Their first hit was 2013’s Spring Breakers, which grossed $31.7 million against its $5 million budget. They followed this with a number of other successful acquired тιтles such as Ex Machina and The Witch and eventually began producing many of the тιтles they distributed, including the Best Picture winners Moonlight and Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Although the company distributes and produces movies in many genres, including comedy, fantasy, and drama, A24 horror movies have become a notable part of their brand after the success of The Witch. They have particularly become known for their work with auteur directors in the horror genre, including Robert Eggers (The Witch, The Lighthouse), Ari Aster (Hereditary, Beau is Afraid, Midsommar), Ti West (X, Pearl, MaXXXine), Jeremy Saulnier (Green Room), and Halina Reijn (Bodies Bodies Bodies).
Bring Her Back Is A24’s Latest Critical Success
Its Rotten Tomatoes Debut Is Stellar
A24’s Bring Her Back has won over quite a few critics. The new horror movie is the latest outing from directors Danny and Michael Philippou after their 2023 movie Talk to Me became a critical and commercial smash, earning a Certified Fresh 94% Rotten Tomatoes score and grossing $91.9 million against its $4.5 million budget. Bring Her Back stars Sally Hawkins as a woman with two foster children who performs a horrifying ritual. The ensemble cast also includes Billy Barratt, Sora Wong, and Jonah Wren Phillips.
Talk to Me is the third highest-grossing A24 movie of all time, behind Everything Everywhere All At Once and Civil War.
Rotten Tomatoes has now aggregated an official Tomatometer score for Bring Her Back. The new A24 horror movie has so far received 23 reviews, the majority of which have been positive. This has earned it a near-perfect 96% score. This score could fluctuate as more reviews are added, but there are more positive reviews on the way, as ScreenRant‘s own Mary Kᴀssel gave the movie a score of 6 out of 10 and their review has not yet been aggregated. Read an excerpt below:
Despite its supernatural elements, it’s a very real portrait of how much tragedy changes us, using its otherworldly side to give its characters and audience an avenue to process these enormous and nuanced feelings. By the end of Bring Her Back, you find yourself starting to empathize with Laura, even as she takes yet another step down an unforgivable path. This might be the film’s greatest achievement, as the Philippous know how to give even the worst villains the humanity they’re due.
What This Means For Bring Her Back
It Could Make A24 History
If the upcoming influx of further Bring Her Back reviews sees the movie’s Rotten Tomatoes score settling in a range between 94% and 98%, it could join the ranks of the best-reviewed A24 movies of all time. Even if it slips to 94%, it would land in the Top 25 of the 147 A24 movies that have been ranked by Rotten Tomatoes. If it ends up any higher, it will be their highest-rated horror movie of all time, because X and Talk to Me are their top horror тιтles, and they are currently tied at 94%.
