Robert Downey Jr. celebrates his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a new pH๏τo of himself on the Avengers: Doomsday set. While The Infinity Saga brought an end to Tony Stark, Downey Jr. is not done with the MCU timeline just yet, as he is set to bring Victor von Doom, a.k.a. Doctor Doom, to life in The Multiverse Saga through Phase 6. With the MCU being set to deal with the famous Marvel foe in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, the arrival of Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom is one of the most highly anticipated aspects of the remainder of The Multiverse Saga.
As the world is still waiting to see what he will look like in his Doctor Doom costume, Robert Downey Jr. took to Instagram to share an image of himself on the Avengers: Doomsday set, wherein he is shown reading and flexing one arm. Downey Jr.’s post also came with a shoutout to his fellow MCU star, Jeremy Renner (who has not been announced yet to be in Avengers: Doomsday), with the actor holding his new book, My Next Breath. Even though there is no MCU costume reveal yet for Doctor Doom in the Avengers: Doomsday pH๏τo, the iconic Marvel antagonist still makes a little appearance behind Downey Jr. Right behind the MCU star, who appears to be sitting by his trailer, a Doctor Doom-themed sign is attached to the trailer, stating “Do Not Knock. Trust Yourself.”
What The Robert Downey Jr. PH๏τo Means For Avengers: Doomsday
Based on Robert Downey Jr’s pH๏τo of himself, it seems that he is fully into shooting for Avengers: Doomsday. However, anyone hoping that they may be able to spot Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom in public will have to wait, as the production team is still likely shooting in secure locations that would make it difficult for set pH๏τos and videos to emerge, for the time being.
While it isn’t confirmed yet, there are some spots on Downey Jr.’s face that look similar to VFX tracking dots that they use during principal pH๏τography. If those are meant to be VFX tracking dots, it could suggest that there will be a VFX component to how they adapt Doctor Doom’s look in Avengers: Doomsday. If that is the case, this could factor into the appearance of something like Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom costume or perhaps even Victor’s scars, but this remains to be seen.
Our Take On The Robert Downey Jr PH๏τo
While it’s not yet clear how long it will be until the world sees his full Doctor Doom look, it’s still great to see Downey Jr. back and involved with the MCU, as it will be fascinating to see how he tackles Victor through Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Given how incredibly gifted he is as an actor, Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom is bound to have a huge impact on the MCU. Hopefully, more details on Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday will emerge sooner rather than later.
