“I Nursed The Hope That I Would One Day Get To Play Him Again:” Avengers: Doomsday’s Kelsey Grammer Addresses Joining The MCU As Beast

After having a cameo in The Marvels, Kelsey Grammer shares what it is like to make his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Avengers: Doomsday. One of the big reveals during Marvel Studios’ surprise stream announcement was the news that several X-Men characters would be brought back for the huge Phase 6 installment. Following his setup in The Marvels, it was only natural that Grammer’s Beast would be one of them, although how he and the other X-Men players fit into Avengers: Doomsday remains to be seen.

During a recent appearance on the Literally! with Rob Lowe podcast, Grammer looked back on his Beast legacy, including how “I heard lovely things about the young man that ended up playing Beast, but I didn’t really watch it. I nursed the hope that one day I’d get to play him again,” referring to Nicholas Hoult’s run with the character in the X-Men prequels. Grammer also reflected on his cameo in The Marvels, discussing the reactions to his MCU cameo before he shared an update on Avengers: Doomsday, stating the following:

I did a little scene … and then it showed. They put it in theaters. And the response when they saw Beast was apparently pretty breathtaking, and that was my ticket. They called me a while later and said, ‘We think we want to put you in another movie.’ So I’m really excited about it … I’ve had a preliminary introduction to the [Doomsday] idea. They are still very secretive about the script.

What Kelsey Grammer’s Beast Comments Mean For Avengers: Doomsday

It’s clear that Grammer is beyond thrilled to get another chance at playing Beast once more, especially after hearing how strong the reactions were to his cameo in The Marvels. Despite his time with the original X-Men films being short, Grammer’s Beast was always one of the best castings in the whole Fox-Marvel era. Given what The Marvels set up with Beast’s return, it’s no wonder that fans are so thrilled to see him back in the MCU, as Phase 6 will be able to shed more light on the post-credits scene.

As far as Avengers: Doomsday goes, even though the movie is still filming, the fact that many cast members, including Grammer, are expressing that they have yet to see a script showcases just how secretive Marvel Studios is being with this film in comparison to others. While MCU projects tend to be kept under wraps extremely well, this may well be a new bar for Marvel Studios. At the same time, it’s understandable why details are being shared carefully with the Avengers: Doomsday cast, since there are still many announcements left to be made about the Phase 6 installment.

Our Take On Kelsey Grammer’s Beast Comments

From Grammer’s little tease about Avengers: Doomsday, it will be fascinating to see what Marvel Studios is actually keeping from the public about Beast’s role in the 2026 installment. Whatever storyline may be impending, the fact that Beast and so many other X-Men characters are set to show up in the MCU timeline in Avengers: Doomsday ensures it will be one of the most exciting releases in Phase 6. Hopefully, as Avengers: Doomsday gets further into filming, more clues will start to emerge about what role the mutants will have in the story.
