Ana de Armas Has The Steeliness Of A John Wick-Level ᴀssᴀssin In Exclusive Ballerina Image

This article is part of ScreenRant‘s Exclusive Summer 2025 Movie Preview. Keep an eye out for the full feature next week!

ScreenRant can reveal a new image from the upcoming movie From the World of John Wick: Ballerina. Ballerina will expand the John Wick universe by telling the origin story of a new ᴀssᴀssin, Eve Maccaro. With the help of a key mentor, Eve will go on a quest for revenge after her father’s death. Unlike the previous Chad Stahelski-helmed installments, the new movie is directed by Len Wiseman. Ballerina features Ana de Armas in the lead role, with a supporting cast that includes Keanu Reeves, Lance Reddick, Norman Reedus, Ian McShane, and Anjelica Huston.

As part of our Summer 2025 Movie Preview, ScreenRant can exclusively reveal a new image from Ballerina. The image is a solo sH๏τ of de Armas, featuring her character in a dimly lit room. She holds a gun up in front of her, extending it across a table. The person she is pointing the gun at is off-screen, so their idenтιтy is not revealed. Check out the image below:

What This Means For Ballerina

John Wick Has A New Lead

Ballerina will have the challenge of being a John Wick movie that does not center around Wick himself. Reeves will appear as the character in the movie, helping Eve along her journey, but he will not be the main person fighting and killing bad guys as he has in previous movies. The latest image from the film gives a hint at how the movie will still have a strong lead despite not centering around John. Eve looks strong and threatening toward whoever is across the table from her, exhibiting an intensity that is key for any John Wick lead.

Ballerina is set in between the third and fourth John Wick movies.

Though she has some similarities with the lead character, Ballerina will also introduce a series of new elements. This will include one of Eve’s main weapons, which will be a flamethrower. The flamethrower has been a huge element of the marketing material for Ballerina, and de Armas previously stated that her experience using the tool caused her to get “really emotional.” The latest image shows the lead using a much more conventional weapon, but the Ballerina trailers and more reveal what other tools are at the lead’s disposal.

Our Take On The Ballerina Image

Ballerina Could Reverse A Negative Box Office Trend

Women-led ᴀssᴀssin movies — from The Rhythm Section to Atomic Blonde — have historically struggled to gain traction at the box office and among audiences. Ballerina has the potential to change this pattern. Not only is it linked to a major existing franchise, but it also includes de Armas, a known actor, in the lead role. If this latest image is an indication, de Armas will bring the same kind of intensity and drama to this action role as she has in previous projects, elevating Ballerina.
