This article is part of ScreenRant’s Exclusive 2025 Summer Movie Preview. Keep an eye out for the full feature next week!

A first-look image has offered a closer look at The Bad Guys 2. The upcoming DreamWorks movie is a sequel to their 2022 hit The Bad Guys, which was based on the children’s graphic novel series of the same name by Aaron Blabey and grossed $250.4 million worldwide against a reported budget of roughly $80 million. The sequel will feature the return of the newly reformed gang of anthropomorphic animal criminals, including Mr. Wolf (Sam Rockwell), Mr. Snake (Marc Maron), Ms. Tarantula (Awkwafina), Mr. Shark (Craig Robinson), and Mr. Piranha (Anthony Ramos), who will be forced into one last heist.

ScreenRant can now share an exclusive first-look image from The Bad Guys 2 ahead of the movie’s official theatrical premiere on August 1. The still frame shows a determined-looking Mr. Wolf gritting his teeth while wearing goggles and parachuting over a sprawling cityscape. The image is close-up on his face, using his expression to highlight the daring and tense moment, which mixes grandeur with danger. Check out the full-size image below:

What This Means For The Bad Guys 2

The Sequel Is Upping The Ante

This first-look image showcases one way that The Bad Guys 2 will aim to be bigger and better than the original movie, which was a critical success in addition to a commercial one, having earned a Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes score of 88% with an even better Verified H๏τ 93% audience score. Although that leaves the sequel with big shoes to fill, this image highlights both the beauty of the environmental animation in the movie and the even more high-octane stunts that its characters will pull off on their brand-new adventure.

On Rotten Tomatoes, The Bad Guys is the 12th highest-rated DreamWorks Animation movie out of 49.

The movie is expanding in other ways, as well. This includes the original Bad Guys cast being joined by a number of new characters, most notably a female-led group known as the Bad Girls that acts as a counterpart to the тιтular group. The members of the Bad Girls include the snow leopard Kitty Kat (Danielle Brooks), the raven Doom (Natasha Lyonne), and the wild boar Pigtail (Maria Bakalova).

The Movie Is Setting Itself Up For Success

Although the franchise has already expanded to include installments such as the Bad Guys: A Very Bad Holiday TV special, The Bad Guys 2 marks the first official feature-length sequel to the original movie. Its performance could make or break the burgeoning franchise and determine if it continues to run in theaters for many years to come, like other DreamWorks franchises such as Shrek and Kung Fu Panda. While the stakes are high, it seems like the movie is prepared to take audiences on a grand adventure that will ensure its success as much as possible.
