Godzilla x Kong 3’s тιтle Has Me Convinced SpaceGodzilla Is Finally Joining The Monsterverse

The тιтle of the latest chapter in the Legendary Monsterverse has been revealed as Godzilla X Kong: Supernova, which leads me to believe that SpaceGodzilla will finally be joining the ever-expanding world of monsters. The тιтle reveal was accompanied by the movie’s first footage as an announcement that the movie is now in production. Major casting announcements have trickled in for months, but with the тιтle now public knowledge, the anticipation for the sixth entry in the Monsterverse is really starting to build, and theories about the meaning of the тιтle are already flying.

The simplest explanation for the тιтle may be the correct one in this case, as Godzilla has a number of enemies from his cinematic past that originate from space. The тιтle of Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire directly related to the movie’s villain, Skar King, so it makes sense that Godzilla X Kong: Supernova would do the same. The Monsterverse has rotated between original villains and villains culled from Godzilla’s rogues’ gallery from the Toho movies, which puts Godzilla X Kong: Supernova on pace to feature a classic baddie. The crystalline conqueror SpaceGodzilla seems like the most obvious choice.

Godzilla x Kong: Supernova Directly Connects To SpaceGodzilla’s Origin

The Menacing Monster Was Born From Black Hole Energy

SpaceGodzilla

The word “supernova” refers to the explosive death of a star, in which it expels most of its most and collapses inward, often leading to the creation of a black hole. While the star/space connection to SpaceGodzilla is obvious, the fact that the тιтle is supernova specifically points to SpaceGodzilla. In the Heisei Era classic Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla in which he originated, SpaceGodzilla was actually born in a black hole before making his way to Earth. While there’s no guarantee that they stick to the origin in the Monsterverse, the connection is simply too obvious.

SpaceGodzilla’s Origin, History & Powers Explained

He’s One Of Godzilla’s All-Time Strongest Foes

SpaceGodzilla is technically a clone of Godzilla, as he was created when some of Godzilla’s cells made their way into space and fell into a black hole. The movie offers two possible explanations: either the cells found their way into space when Biollante was destroyed at the end of Godzilla vs. Biollante, or they were carried on the back of Mothra at the end of Godzilla vs. Mothra. Once Godzilla’s cells fall into the black hole, they emerge from a “white hole”, having mutated with crystalline organisms to create the behemoth SpaceGodzilla.

SpaceGodzilla looks like a more muscular version of Godzilla with a mouthful of jagged teeth and tusks, and of course two mᴀssive crystals jutting out of his shoulders that act as conduits for energy manipulation. SpaceGodzilla possesses a mind-boggling array of different energy attacks to complement his geokinetic abilities; he can make the crystals that are his power source grow, and use them as projectiles. SpaceGodzilla is regarded by many as the most powerful enemy Godzilla has ever faced, and Big G needed a ton of help to finally destroy him.

SpaceGodzilla Has Been At The Center Of Several Previous Monsterverse Theories

He May Have Already Been Teased In Monsterverse Media

Unused SpaceGodzilla mural from Godzilla vs. Kong art book

SpaceGodzilla has long been rumored to already exist in the Monsterverse thanks to a couple of different teases that some have interpreted as references to Godzilla’s cosmic doppelgänger. The first is a piece of unused concept art from the art book for Godzilla vs. Kong, тιтled Godzilla vs. Kong: One Will Fall: The Art of the Ultimate Battle Royale. The book features some kind of painted mural that supposedly depicts the ancient тιтan War hinted at in Godzilla vs. Kong. In the mural, an army of Great Apes and members of Godzilla’s species do battle, but not against each other.

The Monsterverse has hidden future teases outside the movies before; the ultra-powerful ice тιтan Shimo was first teased in a cave painting in Call of Duty, the popular video game, two years before she appeared in Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire.

They are all aiming their attacks at some sort of тιтan in the sky, which looks like Godzilla but with mᴀssive wings. It implies that the ancient тιтan War had a secret villain that united Godzilla and Kong’s ancestors, and the blue color and path across the sky (with what looks like a spiral of stars in space) point to it being an interpretation of SpaceGodzilla. If it is, then Godzilla X Kong: Supernova‘s тιтle might hint that SpaceGodzilla is already in the Monsterverse, possibly hibernating somewhere in the Hollow Earth or elsewhere on the surface world.

The show Monarch: Legacy of Monsters may also have teased SpaceGodzilla, but gave him a more realistic origin. In episode 4 of the show, a Monarch employee picks up a form of black hole radiation originating from within the Hollow Earth. The theory is that a member of Godzilla’s species was corrupted by black hole energy in the Hollow Earth, which led to the creation of SpaceGodzilla. That seemed more possible after Godzilla evolved from feeding off Tiamat’s DNA and absorbing solar radiation from her lair, and the new movie’s тιтle could be the ultimate confirmation.

How SpaceGodzilla’s Introduction In Godzilla x Kong: Supernova Will Change The Monsterverse

The Ultra-Powerful Kaiju May Be Too Much For Godzilla And Kong

Screenrant Sandbox - 2025-05-09T231059.213

If the Monsterverse does introduce SpaceGodzilla, and he’s as powerful as his Toho incarnation, then he could very well prove too strong for even the combined might of Godzilla and Kong. Even if he’s able to power up again as he did in Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire, Godzilla may not be strong enough to withstand the offensive onslaught that SpaceGodzilla will bring to the table. Heisei Godzilla was unable to stop SpaceGodzilla without the help of the mecha M.O.G.U.E.R.A., which was able to destroy his shoulder crystals and critically injure him.

Frankly, Kong might barely be a factor in the fight even with his battle axe and B.E.A.S.T. glove in the mix. In fact, SpaceGodzilla could change the Monsterverse forever by killing Kong and/or his faithful ally, Shimo. While the last two movies have focused primarily on Kong, Godzilla X Kong: Supernova could pivot by taking Kong out of the picture. That would lead to the Godzilla-centric movie that G-fans have clamored for over the last few years, and could see Godzilla utilize his authority as the planet’s alpha тιтan to recruit help once Kong is eliminated from the battle.

Whether it’s just Godzilla or both Godzilla and Kong, the alpha тιтan(s) at the head of an army of Earth’s тιтans in an all-out ᴀssault against SpaceGodzilla could be an incredible and realistic way to put him down. It would also be an opportunity to reintroduce some of the original monsters that moviegoers have only ever gotten a glimpse of. It seems clear that the тιтle of Godzilla X Kong: Supernova is a reference to SpaceGodzilla, and if that’s true then a monster of his power level will change the Monsterverse forever.
