I Know What You Did Last Summer’s New Teens Grimly Prepare For The Worst In Exclusive New Image

This article is part of ScreenRant‘s Exclusive 2025 Summer Movie Preview. Keep an eye out for the full feature next week!

A new image from I Know What You Did Last Summer offers a closer look at the horror movie’s core group of victims. The 2025 legacy sequel is the fourth feature-length installment in the iconic slasher 1990s franchise and features a new crop of teens being targeted by a hook-wielding killer after attempting to cover up a fatal car accident. The upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer will also feature the return of original stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reprising their roles as Julie James and Ray Bronson respectively.

ScreenRant can now share an exclusive first-look image from I Know What You Did Last Summer ahead of the movie’s official theatrical release date on July 18. The still shows Ava (Chase Sui Wonders), Danica (Madelyn Cline), Stevie (Sarah Pidgeon), Teddy (Tyriq Withers), and Milo (Jonah Hauer-King) wearing intense looks on their faces as they walk toward a ship docked in the marina of Southport, North Carolina. What This Means For I Know What You Did Last Summer

The New Group Is Front And Center

This new image emphasizes the fact that, even though the legacy sequel features both of the franchise’s most important surviving characters, the new group of teenagers will be central to the story, which features the return of the I Know What You Did Last Summer fisherman, though the killer will likely prove to be a copycat. The still shows the group seemingly working together to get to the bottom of the threatening notes that they have received, which mirrors the investigation at the core of the original movie.

The idenтιтy of the legacy sequel’s killer is unknown, but in the original movies it was the vengeful fisherman Ben Willis (Muse Watson).

There is also a major clue in the background of the image that offers a glimpse into the life of a returning legacy character. Behind them, a building features a sign reading “Ray’s Bar,” which implies that Prinze Jr.’s character has not only remained in town, but become a business owner. He had previously been a fisherman in the original two movies, so it is unclear how he might have transitioned from one occupation to the other, though he has remained close to the Southport docks.

Our Take On The New I Know What You Did Last Summer Image

Ray And Julie’s Relationship Is In Question

Ray’s Bar also offers a clue about his relationship with Julie. The I Know What You Did Last Summer trailer did not show the characters together onscreen, which could indicate that the lovers have broken up. Julie’s preference had generally been to stay away from her hometown, so she may not have stayed with him if he stuck around Southport. While it seemed that the pair had moved in together at the end of 1998’s I Still Know, it has been officially confirmed that that scene has been retconned as a dream sequence, making their relationship’s canonical foundation even shakier.
