All 4 Cosmic Villains Who Could Appear In Godzilla X Kong: Supernova

Godzilla X Kong: Supernova seems to be setting up a cosmic threat as the next villain in the series, and these four classic Godzilla Kaiju could easily get a modern update for the MonsterVerse. Starting with 2014’s Godzilla and quickly expanding to include other iconic monsters like King Kong and Mothra, the MonsterVerse has become a consistent box-office draw. The upcoming sixth feature film in the series will be the newly announced Godzilla X Kong: Supernova, which will seemingly continue the alliance that was fostered between the two тιтans in previous films.

The MonsterVerse has been good about pulling old monsters from the legacy of Godzilla films alongside introducing new threats, ensuring fans old and new have plenty to love about the blockbuster series. However, Supernova‘s тιтle seems to imply that the Earth will soon be confronted with something that comes from beyond the stars. That’s an exciting development, because some of Godzilla’s most fearsome foes hailed from off-world. Here are four classic cosmic Godzilla villains who could make their MonsterVerse debut in Godzilla X Kong: Supernova.

SpaceGodzilla

The MonsterVerse Might Have Already Been Teasing The Existence Of SpaceGodzilla

SpaceGodzilla would be the perfect cosmic threat to introduce to the MonsterVerse in Godzilla X Kong: Supernova. Introduced in Toho’s 1994 film Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla, SpaceGodzilla is a similar species to the тιтular тιтan. Born from the G-Cells that came off Godzilla after they gestated in a black hole, SpaceGodzilla is an even more monstrous take on the Kaiju than normal. Having bonded with a crystalline element while traveling through the cosmos, SpaceGodzilla has crystals that protrude from its body and provide it with unique abilities (while also serving as a weak point that could be targeted).

The MonsterVerse would have carte blanche to introduce plenty of their own changes and tweaks to the concept, allowing it to fit neatly into the lore of the modern franchise. It could also easily serve as the realization of a Godzilla Vs. Kong concept art tease that has yet to come to fruition. That concept art depicted cave paintings of an ancient war that united the Kongs, the Godzillas, and the humans of Earth against a mᴀssive threat from space. That threat could easily be revealed to be SpaceGodzilla.

SpaceGodzilla being born from a black hole would fit the Supernova тιтle, as those can occur in real life as the result of stars going supernova. SpaceGodzilla would also carry plenty of clearly dangerous potential, setting up another alliance between Kong and Godzilla to overcome a greater threat. It would also be a natural way to delve further into the lore of the MonsterVerse, as SpaceGodzilla could either be the result of the reawakened тιтans, or could be a return of the species that spawned them.

Orga

The Ultimate Lifeform Could Absorb Other тιтans

Orga swallowing Godzilla in Godzilla 2000

A dangerous form of the Millennian aliens, Orga could be a compelling and horrifying threat to put at the center of Godzilla X Kong: Supernova. The creature debuted in the 1999 film Godzilla 2000: Millennium. The Orga is created when the Millennians are able to absorb some of Godzilla’s physical traits, imbuing them with Godzilla’s mighty strength and absurdly powerful healing abilities. On top of that, the Millennian retained telepathic control over their technology, allowing them to outmaneuver Godzilla.

The Orga could make for an intriguing threat that could absorb the abilities of other тιтans in the process of becoming the new apex predator.

What makes Orga a particularly exciting idea for a villain is also the creepiest element of the character. The Orga is a bio-mᴀss that is capable of ᴀssimilating the genetic material of others to become more powerful and adaptive. This could be translated in the modern MonsterVerse as a more insidious threat, capable of absorbing humans as well and hiding in plain sight as it tries to ᴀssimilate the mightiest beings on Earth. In Godzilla 2000: Millennium, Godzilla was forced to let itself be partly absorbed so it could fire an atomic blast from within Orga, destroying it from within.

The Orga could make for an intriguing threat that could absorb the abilities of other тιтans in the process of becoming the new apex predator. This could allow the MonsterVerse to clear house and naturally write off any number of тιтans, all while infusing their powers into Orga. This could easily become a global-level threat, requiring Monarch to work more actively alongside Godzilla in an effort to identify the Orga’s extensions and counteract its adaptive abilities.

Gigan

One Of Godzilla’s Most Brutal Foes Could Make His Feature Film Return

Gigan In Godzilla Final Wars

Often considered one of the most fearsome foes Godzilla faced in the Toho film series, Gigan would be an ideal threat to bring back to the franchise in the modern MonsterVerse. Gigan debuted in 1972’s Godzilla vs. Gigan. The creature is nominally similar to Godzilla physically, but has been given mechanical upgrades thanks to the machinations of the Nebulans. A modern Gigan could feel like the ultimate middle-ground between the Mechagodzilla of Godzilla Vs. Kong and the Skar King of Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire.

The ability to serve as a dark foil to the more heroic тιтans could make Gigan an immediately cool contrast, especially if his ability to use weapons to his advantage gives him the kind of edge Skar King briefly gained over King Kong in combat. The ruthless nature of the тιтan could also be an interesting contrast to the modern versions of Godzilla and Kong, who are more ambiguous or even protective of humanity. Gigan, being the result of alien experimentation, could also expand the MonsterVerse beyond the limits of the Earth.

This could formally establish some of the iconic alien races that frequently appear in the Toho Godzilla films in the modern MonsterVerse. Gigan’s unique design would also have the benefit of just simply looking cool on the big screen, as modern special effects could bring the Kaiju cyborg to life in a way the original movies simply couldn’t. Similar to SpaceGodzilla, Gigan’s direct contrast to Godzilla could also offer Godzilla X Kong: Supernova a more direct parallel to what Godzilla could be like if it went fully monstrous instead of becoming a guardian to the Earth.

Hedorah

Hedorah Could Bring Some More Ecological Themes To The MonsterVerse

Godzilla fights Hedorah the Smog Monster

Debuting in the 1971 film Godzilla vs. Hedorah, Hedorah could be a compelling and relevant Kaiju to introduce to the MonsterVerse in Godzilla X Kong: Supernova. Arriving on Earth on a comet, Hedorah is an amphibious creature that can consume toxic sludge and general pollution as an energy source. Hedorah taking over a major villainous role in the MonsterVerse could be an easy way for the franchise to address the damage that human pollution has had on the world, as it only grows more powerful the more refuse it consumes.

This could give the new film a thematic connection with earlier entries in the series like Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which made the argument that humanity’s negative impact on the planet through things like pollution makes them the most dangerous creatures on the planet. Hedorah’s ability to gain new powers and forms as it evolves would make it a natural threat that could change visually over the course of the film. This would also have the benefit of creating a more inherently interesting threat to contend with, as it keeps evolving and gaining new abilities.

Notably, Hedorah was only destroyed by an alliance between Godzilla and humanity. Replicating that story beat could further underscore the MonsterVerse’s long-running themes about humanity and nature needing to find a way to work in harmony against threats instead of bringing one another down. Hedorah would make perfect sense as the kind of cosmic threat that could be at the heart of Godzilla X Kong: Supernova, serving as a compelling physical threat and a thematically weighty force of nature to be brought down.
