A clue about the villainous meaning of the recently revealed тιтle of the MonsterVerse’s new chapter, Godzilla X Kong: Supernova, may have been revealed in another MonsterVerse project two years ago. After Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire saw the MonsterVerse reach new heights at the box office, anticipation has built about the franchise turning back to classic Toho monsters after Godzilla and Kong battled the original MonsterVerse monsters Skar King and Shimo. Especially with the last two movies focusing on Kong, the dominant theory is that a classic Godzilla villain could be on deck next.
Godzilla X Kong: Supernova‘s тιтle certainly added fuel to the flames, as the term “supernova” seems like a direct reference to Godzilla’s ultra-powerful doppelgänger from the Heisei Era, SpaceGodzilla. Born when Godzilla cells fall through a black hole and come out mutated on the other side, SpaceGodzilla is widely considered one of the strongest foes that Godzilla has ever encountered, although his Toho origin has always seemed a little too wild to fit the MonsterVerse. However, a line from the first season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters may actually point to the crystalline kaiju already existing in Godzilla’s world.

A Line About The Science Of The Hollow Earth Has Huge Implications
What seemed like a throwaway line in episode 4 of the Apple TV+ show Monarch: Legacy of Monsters may explain what Godzilla X Kong: Supernova‘s тιтle is actually alluding to. In the episode, Dr. Barnes (Jess Salgueiro), a Monarch scientist stationed at Outpost 47 in Utah, calls Monarch HQ when her outdated equipment picks up an unusual energy signature. It detected radiation that is only supposed to exist in pulsars, which are labeled as “supermᴀssive black holes in outer space” in the episode, coming from Alaska.
In Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla, it’s revealed that SpaceGodzilla was born when some Godzilla cells made their way into space (either on the back of Mothra or in spores released by Biollante upon its death) and fell into a black hole. They emerged from a “white hole” and mutated with crystalline organisms to create SpaceGodzilla.
The episode implies that the portals to the Hollow Earth, known as “Vile Vortices”, actually contain the same energy found in black holes in space, which is part of what powers the portals and allows for instantaneous travel through them. The portals have always seemed to bend space and time when depicted in the MonsterVerse show or the movies, and if they literally are powered by black hole energy, then that could be exactly what they’re doing. It would mean that black holes aren’t exclusive to space in the MonsterVerse–they also exist in the Hollow Earth.
The тιтle of Godzilla X Kong: Supernova could be a reference to those black holes, which have barely been explored in the MonsterVerse. Dr. Ilene Andrews makes special note in Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire that Monarch has only managed to map roughly 5% of the Hollow Earth, meaning there are plenty of places for a monster born in or corrupted by black hole energy to still be hiding. It seems likely that the next villainous тιтan is in some way related to the black holes of the Hollow Earth, whether it’s SpaceGodzilla or something else.

An Image From The Movie’s Art Book Might Include SpaceGodzilla
SpaceGodzilla has already been teased once before in the expanded media of the MonsterVerse, making it even more likely that he’s the тιтan behind the new movie’s тιтle. The art book for Godzilla vs. Kong, тιтled Godzilla vs. Kong: One Will Fall: The Art of the Ultimate Battle Royale, reveals a painted mural that never ended up being used in the movie anywhere as it explored the origins of Kong, Godzilla, and the great тιтan War. The image shows both Kong and Godzilla ancestors aiming their wrath at a creature in the sky that looks like Godzilla, but with wings.
Godzilla X Kong: Supernova could reveal that the black hole energy in the Hollow Earth actually corrupted a member of Godzilla’s species.
It’s worth noting that the creature is painted blue, while all the other тιтans in the image are painted red, indicating that it is in some way different from the other тιтans in the image. It isn’t a perfect match for SpaceGodzilla given the fact that it has wings in place of spiked crystals on its shoulders. However, it does seem to be emerging from a spiral of stars, which could be representative of a hole in space or perhaps a portal from the Hollow Earth.
While this concept art went unused, it could be a clue that there was actually a hidden villain in the ancient тιтan War, one so strong that Godzilla’s ancestors and the Great Apes were forced to team up to stop it. Godzilla X Kong: Supernova could reveal that the black hole energy in the Hollow Earth actually corrupted a member of Godzilla’s species, yielding an all-powerful creature with enough firepower to jeopardize the entire planet: SpaceGodzilla.
