The тιтle reveal for Godzilla X Kong: Supernova kicked the internet into a frenzy, and one long-standing theory about the ancient тιтan War of the MonsterVerse has resurfaced as more likely than ever. The тιтle for the direct sequel to 2024’s Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire was revealed alongside some brief teaser footage which showed that the movie is in production for a 2027 release date. Major casting announcements have trickled in for months, but the тιтle reveal for Godzilla X Kong: Supernova is the official start of the hype cycle for the latest chapter in Legendary’s MonsterVerse.
Each subтιтle from the MonsterVerse acts as a brief descriptor of the overarching plot, but the last two тιтles were revealed before plot details became widely known. As was the case with The New Empire, the newest movie’s subтιтle Supernova acts more as a clue or riddle to be solved when revealed so far in advance. Goji fans across the internet have already begun to fire off theories, but the most prevalent one intimates that the new movie’s villain was actually revealed several years ago, and relates to the ancient тιтan War from antiquity teased in Godzilla vs. Kong.
Concept Art From Godzilla vs. Kong Seemingly Teased SpaceGodzilla’s Debut
A Painted Mural Showed A Flying Godzilla-like Creature
The тιтle of Godzilla X Kong: Supernova naturally yielded speculation that SpaceGodzilla would be the newest threat to the MonsterVerse given his connection to space, the stars, and black holes. That seems even more likely when one considers that many MonsterVerse fans theorized about SpaceGodzilla way back during the promotion, release, and aftermath of Godzilla vs. Kong. The art book for Godzilla vs. Kong, тιтled Godzilla vs. Kong: One Will Fall: The Art of the Ultimate Battle Royale, featured a piece of unused concept art for the movie that seemed to feature the crystalline cosmic menace.

The painted mural from antiquity seemed to show the ancient тιтan War, with Great Apes and members from Godzilla’s species all battling in the same scene. However, this particular bit of artwork shows both parties directing their attacks not at each other, but at a lone flying creature in the sky. The simplistic depiction shows what looks like Godzilla but with mᴀssive wings, breathing fire down on the mᴀssed enemies below him. While the creature is not covered in crystals like SpaceGodzilla, the spiral of stars from whence it came does still mark is as an interpretation of SpaceGodzilla.
While the Great Apes and Godzillas are all painted red in the mural, the other creature is painted blue, indicating he is somehow different from the others (aside from the wings, of course). It hints that there was a secret villain during the ancient тιтan War, or perhaps another war entirely that saw the two warring factions come together to defeat a more dangerous foe, just as Kong and Godzilla have done in modern day on multiple occasions. If the dominant theory is to be believed, this mural is the first true hint that SpaceGodzilla was that ultra-powerful ancient enemy.
What The SpaceGodzilla Theory Could Mean For Supernova’s Story
SpaceGodzilla May Not Need To Come From Space
If that ancient piece of artwork is considered canon, and does in fact feature SpaceGodzilla, then it holds an important clue about the story for Godzilla X Kong: Supernova. SpaceGodzilla battling against the ancient Great Apes and members of Godzilla’s species centuries ago means that he won’t be coming from the stars in the new movie. SpaceGodzilla is likely already on Earth, or rather in the Hollow Earth hibernating somewhere. That could also hold a clue as to how he was created in the first place.
In Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla, it’s revealed that SpaceGodzilla was born when some Godzilla cells made their way into space and fell into a black hole. Two theories as to how Godzilla’s cells wound up in space are offered (via Mothra or Biollante’s death), but neither option is ever confirmed.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters may have explained SpaceGodzilla’s origins already, and it all revolves around the Hollow Earth. The show briefly mentions an instance where black hole radiation is found, originating from the Hollow Earth and manifesting around one of the Vile Vortices, the portals between the surface and the three realms of the Hollow Earth. Instead of SpaceGodzilla being born in a black hole in space, he could originate as a member of Godzilla’s species who was corrupted by black hole radiation within the Hollow Earth itself.
If he is a member of Godzilla’s species, then he could share Godzilla’s ability to absorb radiation from all different sources, and power up as needed based on that. Godzilla actually absorbed some of Tiamet’s DNA when he killed her and cocooned himself in her home to further siphon radiation. SpaceGodzilla could be the result of a member of Godzilla’s species who simply stuck with the black hole radiation of the Hollow Earth, and has been feeding off it for centuries, or however long it’s been since the ancient тιтan War.
Why SpaceGodzilla Could Be Godzilla & Kong’s Strongest Foe Yet
He’s Shown Battling An Army Of Kongs And Godzillas
The creature in the mural is shown battling a literal army of Kongs and Godzillas, and the fact that it takes so much effort to bring him down further cements that it might be SpaceGodzilla. The SpaceGodzilla that Godzilla battled in the 1994 Heisei Era classic Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla was one of, if not the strongest monsters that Godzilla has ever tangled with on the big screen. His list of energy and psychic attacks and defenses is mᴀssive:
- Corona Beam
- PH๏τon Reactive Shield
- Gravity Tornado
- PH๏τon Hurricane
- Homing Ghosts
- Energy Manipulation
- Geokinesis
In fact, SpaceGodzilla was so strong in that movie that Godzilla couldn’t beat him on his own. It took the combined efforts of Godzilla and the Japan Self-Defense Force’s mecha defender M.O.G.U.E.R.A. (Mobile Operations G-Force Universal Expert Robot: Aero-type) to finally subdue the monster, and it was actually M.O.G.U.E.R.A., not Godzilla, who weakened SpaceGodzilla by blasting his shoulder crystals. Godzilla busted out the red spiral heat ray version of his atomic breath to finally put an end to SpaceGodzilla, but he was no match on his own at first.
Godzilla X Kong: Supernova will release in theaters on March 26th, 2027.
SpaceGodzilla could prove to be too much for Godzilla and Kong to handle, especially after they dispatched their previous enemy, Skar King, with relative ease once his hold on Shimo was broken. If SpaceGodzilla does turn out to be what Godzilla X Kong: Supernova‘s тιтle is referring to, then he could be enough of a threat that the alpha тιтans need to turn to allies beyond just Mothra and Shimo. An enemy as strong as SpaceGodzilla could bring about the arrival of a brand-new тιтan War, with Godzilla and Kong at the head of an army of тιтans defending Earth.
