“He’s Very Excited About This Movie”: Keanu Reeves Enjoyed Filming John Wick’s Spinoff So Much He’s Already Pitched Ideas For Ballerina 2

Keanu Reeves is already brainstorming for a sequel to From the World of John Wick: Ballerina. Directed by Len Wiseman and starring Ana de Armas, the upcoming spinoff follows Eve Macarro (de Armas) as she trains to become an ᴀssᴀssin in the same academy where Reeves’ Baba Yaga was born. The film is set between John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4.

In an interview with Empire Magazine, de Armas, who worked with Reeves on Knock Kncok and Exposed, shared that the John Wick actor had a great filming experience and had already begun to think about a sequel. The actor explained that Reeves was “immediately” on board when they reached out to him and has been “very excited” about the film. De Armas teased intense fight scenes between Eve and Wick and Reeves’ ideas for the next movie. Read her comment below:

He’s very excited about this movie. Immediately when we reached out to him, he was on board and wanted to be in it. I’ve been in two previous films with Keanu, and I just didn’t think he was gonna throw me on the floor this many times! It was a whole different environment to be in with him. On his last day, he was already telling Len ideas for the next one…

What This Means For Ballerina

Eve And John Wick Are On Opposite Sides

Ballerina‘s trailer sees Eve going rogue to avenge her father, which causes the Director of the New York branch of Ruska Roma to send the Baba Yaga her way. While the trailer didn’t feature a close fight scene between Eve and Wick, de Armas’ comments revealed that there would be close combat. The actor’s comments also hint that Eve’s journey might not end with Ballerina despite being targeted.

In the same interview, Wiseman also clarified that Eve is in a different state of mind from Wick, who is “trying to get out.” De Armas admits that her character “makes mistakes” in this movie because she’s young, emotional, and has so much “rage” inside her. While neither Wiseman nor Reeves commented about a second spin-off, the actor is currently developing John Wick 5 alongside director Chad Stahelski. He mentioned in other interviews that Ballerina‘s success will likely have an impact on the franchise’s future.

Our Take On Ballerina

It’s Highly Anticipated

John Wick confronts Eve in Ballerina

It sounds like Reeves had a blast playing Baba Yaga again after John Wick: Chapter 4. The star had previously voiced his worries about the physical and emotional demands of the role regarding his return in a fifth installment in the main series before it was confirmed. While we don’t know anything for sure, it sounds like filming Ballerina may have acted as a catalyst for Reeves to keep pushing for the franchise.

In addition to starring as the тιтular ᴀssᴀssin in the main series, Reeves also serves as an executive producer for the John Wick spinoff TV series. The Ana de Armas-fronted spinoff, arriving in theaters on June 6, has given audiences a lot to look forward to. Reeves’ excitement for the film and his enthusiasm to continue From the World of John Wick: Ballerina‘s story also speaks volumes about what’s in store for the next John Wick movie.
