Mortal Kombat 2 Has 15+ Video Game Characters, But These 10 Are Still Missing From The Franchise

There will be a lot of characters in Mortal Kombat 2, but there are several video game characters who still haven’t appeared in the rebooted franchise. 24 years after the previous live-action movie based on the iconic fighting game, 2021’s Mortal Kombat rebooted the franchise. Even though reviews for the 2021 film were mixed, anticipation is high for the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2. Not only will the sequel feature Johnny Cage, one of the most popular characters who will be played by Karl Urban, but it will also include an actual Mortal Kombat tournament.

This means that Earthrealm’s warriors will fight many characters from both Outworld and Netherrealm. Characters like Cole Young, Liu Kang, Raiden, and Sonya Blade will return in the sequel, but it will also introduce new characters, such as Baraka, Quan Chi, Queen Sindel, and the menacing Shao Kahn, who is the emperor of Outworld. It should be noted that some characters on this list could make surprise appearances in Mortal Kombat 2, but as of now, none of them are confirmed for the sequel. Therefore, here are ten characters I want to see in future Mortal Kombat movies:

10

Ermac Is An Outworld Warrior Who Uses Telekinesis

First Game Appearance: Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (1995)

Ermac is an emotionless Mortal Kombat character who utilizes his telekinetic abilities during combat. In the video games, Ermac fights for the betterment of Outworld, so his inclusion in Mortal Kombat 2 or future movies would make sense. Ermac is a fusion of souls that were destroyed during Outworld’s wars, which is why he often refers to himself as “we,” “us,” etc. In a lot of games, he is controlled by Shao Kahn and his Shadow Priests, and is a dangerous opponent for Earthrealm’s warriors.

9

Chameleon Is The Same Species As Reptile

First Game Appearance: Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (1995)

Mortal Kombat Chameleon (1)

Similar to Ermac, Chameleon is often thought of as one of Shao Kahn’s ᴅᴇᴀᴅliest warriors, which is why it would be amazing to see either him or his female counterpart, Khameleon, in a future Mortal Kombat movie. Chameleon can camouflage himself during fights, which often throws off his opponents. He is a Saurian, which are reptilian humanoids who evolved from dinosaurs. Reptile, who appeared in the first Mortal Kombat movie, was also a Saurian, so it would make sense for Chameleon or Khameleon to also appear in the film franchise.

8

Kabal Is A Former Member Of The Black Dragon Clan

First Game Appearance: Mortal Kombat 3 (1995)

Mortal Kombat 11 Kabal

Kabal is a Mortal Kombat antagonist who is forced to wear a mask after surviving an attack from one of Shao Kahn’s extermination squads. Kabal’s face is scarred and he needs to wear a respiratory mask, which was provided by Kano. Kabal knows Kano since he is a former member of the Black Dragon clan. Since Kano leads the Black Dragon clan and was a standout character in the 2021 film, it would be great to see Kabal appear in a future Mortal Kombat movie to potentially fight against his old ally.

7

Cyrax Is Turned Into A Robot In The Mortal Kombat Franchise

First Game Appearance: Mortal Kombat 3 (1995)

Mortal Kombat 11 Cyrax

Cyrax is one of the most interesting characters in the Mortal Kombat franchise since he was originally a human before being turned into a robot thanks to the Cyber Initiative. The Cyber Initiative is a program created by the Lin Kuei clan, who wanted to turn all their ᴀssᴀssins into cold-hearted, cybernetic warriors. Obviously, the Cyber Initiative is very controversial, and it could make for a tragic storyline if a Mortal Kombat movie introduced Cyrax as a human before turning him into a robot.

6

Sektor Embraces The Cyber Initiative

First Game Appearance: Mortal Kombat 3 (1995)

Sektor From Mortal Kombat 9

In the Mortal Kombat games, Cyrax attempts to rediscover his human side, whereas Sektor embraces his cybernetic abilities and is basically an evil robot. Sektor is both a former Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei and Cyber Lin Kuei, and could be a major antagonist for not only Cyrax, but other characters in Mortal Kombat movies. Unlike characters like Cyrax and Sub-Zero, Sektor never questions the Cyber Initiative and fully embraces being cybernetic. Therefore, if Cyrax ever gets introduced, it also makes sense to include Sektor.

5

Cᴀssie Cage Is A Newer Protagonist In The Franchise

First Game Appearance: Mortal Kombat X (2015)

Cᴀssie Cage is the daughter of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade and was first introduced in 2015’s Mortal Kombat X, in which she is one of the primary protagonists. Since Johnny Cage is being introduced in Mortal Kombat 2, it’s possible that he can spark up a relationship with Sonya Blade. However, since Johnny Cage is a bit older in the upcoming movie, it’s possible that he already has a daughter. Therefore, while she is a newer character in the franchise, it would be great to see Cᴀssie Cage in a future Mortal Kombat movie.

4

Nightwolf Is A Somewhat Controversial (But Great) Mortal Kombat Character

First Game Appearance: Mortal Kombat 3 (1995)

Nightwolf is covered in red and black warpaint in Mortal Kombat 11

In the Mortal Kombat games, Nightwolf is a member Matoka Tribe, a Native American tribe that resides in Earthrealm. The portrayal of Nightwolf in some Mortal Kombat games has been criticized as a stereotype of Native Americans. However, as long as his origin and character traits are handled with respect, it would be amazing to see Nightwolf in a future Mortal Kombat movie since he is a powerful ally for Earthrealm’s warriors.

3

Kintaro Is Arguably Stronger Than Goro In The Mortal Kombat Games

First Game Appearance: Mortal Kombat II (1993)

Kintaro in Mortal Kombat

After Liu Kang defeated Goro in the first Mortal Kombat game, Kintaro replaces the four-armed Outworld champion in the sequel. Kintaro is the sub-boss of the second Mortal Kombat game, in which Shao Kahn is the final boss. Since Goro was defeated in the first Mortal Kombat movie, it would make sense for Kintaro to appear as one of Shao Kahn’s champions in the sequel or a future movie. Kintaro has four arms, just like Goro, and resembles a tiger, so he would be a terrifying enemy in a future Mortal Kombat movie.

2

Sheeva Is The Same Species As Goro & Kintaro

First Game Appearance: Mortal Kombat 3 (1995)

Queen Sheeva poses in Mortal Kombat 11

Speaking of four-armed characters, it would also be great to see Sheeva in Mortal Kombat 2 or a future movie. Just like Goro and Kintaro, Sheeva is a Shokan, a race of half human, half dragon beings in the Mortal Kombat franchise. In the games, Sheeva serves as the personal bodyguard of Queen Sindel, the wife of Shao Kahn. Since Queen Sindel is confirmed to appear in Mortal Kombat 2 alongside the mighty emporer of Outworld, it would make perfect sense for Sheeva to also appear in the sequel, or at least in a future movie.

1

Shinnok Could Emerge As The Franchise’s Main Villain

First Game Appearance: Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero (1997)

Alongside Shang Tsung and Shao Kahn, Shinnok is one of the three main villains in the Mortal Kombat franchise. Therefore, he must appear in a future movie. Shinnok is the Elder God of Death and the ruler of the Netherrealm in the Mortal Kombat franchise. In the games, he often aligns himself with Quan Chi, who will be introduced in Mortal Kombat 2. After Shao Kahn’s defeat, it would make sense for Shinnok to emerge as the main villain of the third or fourth Mortal Kombat movie.

In addition to these ten characters, there are still so many fascinating Mortal Kombat characters who could potentially appear in future movies.

Other than Shang Tsung and Shao Kahn, Shinnok is the most recognizable villain in the Mortal Kombat franchise. He is arguably more powerful than both Shang Tsung and Shao Kahn, so it would be great to see him appear in the franchise at some point. It is unlikely that Shinnok will appear in Mortal Kombat 2, but his role in a future movie could continue the high stakes of the franchise.
