This article is part of ScreenRant’s Exclusive Summer 2025 Movie Preview. Keep an eye out for the full feature next week!
As part of ScreenRant‘s summer movie preview, a new image has been revealed for Lilly. The upcoming biopic stars Patricia Clarkson as Lilly Ledbetter, a small town woman who seeks legal recourse after being mistreated by her employer. The movie follows Ledbetter’s life over the course of several decades, starting in her early years working for Goodyear and continuing through her high-profile Supreme Court case. The movie is directed by Rachel Feldman, who co-wrote the film with Adam Prince. In addition to Clarkson, Lilly stars Josh McDermitt, Thomas Sadoski, Deirdre Lovejoy, and John Benjamin Hickey.
Now, ScreenRant can exclusively reveal a new image from Lilly. The image shows Clarkson’s тιтular character sitting in a car, looking up at an unseen character. Lilly’s eyes look bright as she gazes at the person above her. At the bottom of the frame, it is clear that she is wearing a glitzy dress, likely coming from some kind of formal event. What This Means For Lilly
The Movie Will Address Ledbetter’s Personal Life
In addition to the image, ScreenRant also has an exclusive quote from the director. While Feldman emphasized the importance of the movie’s themes, she noted that her “goal was to focus on Lilly’s personal life.” Part of doing so was portraying “Lilly and Charles’ beautiful marriage.” As such, it seems likely that Charles (played by Hickey) is the person that Clarkson is soulfully looking up at in the image. The full quote from Feldman is below:
Though LILLY is a movie about the transformation of a factory worker into the face and voice of fair pay, my goal was to focus on Lilly’s personal life. Actors Patricia Clarkson and John Benjamin Hickey had known each other for decades but never worked together before shooting our film. You can see their palpable chemistry and joy as they portrayed Lilly and Charles’ beautiful marriage, the heart center of the movie.
Both the image and the quote help to emphasize the non-court case part of Ledbetter’s life. Before she was speaking at rallies for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign and more, Ledbetter was just a regular person. She did normal, relatable things, such as having a deep romantic relationship with her husband and competing in ballroom dancing compeтιтions. The outfit in the image suggests that Lilly could be coming back from one such compeтιтion. It is a more subtle, understated moment within a film whose trailer indicates a fair share of procedural drama.
Our Take On The Lilly Image
Clarkson Is The Core Of This Film
The image for Lilly centers Clarkson, who will be the biggest draw to this film. The actor, now 65 years old, has had a prolific career that has included copious awards recognition. This includes an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Pieces of April, as well as three Emmy wins and an additional nomination for Sharp Objects. The biggest name in the cast by far, Clarkson will be the one enticing people to theaters as the movie releases tomorrow, May 9.
