The Old Guard 2 Trailer: Uma Thurman’s First Immortal Goes Full Kill Bill On Charlize Theron For A Centuries-Old Betrayal

Netflix drops the official trailer for The Old Guard 2. Based on a graphic novel by Greg Rucka and illustrator Leandro Fernandez, the Victoria Mahoney-directed sequel sees the return of Andy (Charlize Theron) and her team of immortal warriors. Oscar-nominated actor Uma Thurman and Henry Golding have joined the expanding world as two key new players.

Ahead of the movie’s release on July 2, Netflix has released the trailer for The Old Guard 2, teasing an upcoming epic sword fight between Thurman’s villainous original immortal and Andy. The trailer catches up with Andy, who is adjusting to her newfound morality, and offers the first look at Thurman’s immortal villain, who is set to destroy Andy and her team with powers they don’t know exist. Meanwhile, Quynh (Veronica Ngo) has escaped her underwater prison. Check out the trailer below:

What The Trailer Means For The Old Guard 2

Andy & Her Team Have To Face The Past In The Old Guard 2

The battles in The Old Guard 2 are not only emotional but also personal, with one of the powers Thurman’s character possesses allowing her to access a person’s history and memories. What exactly her villain is trying to achieve remains a mystery, but the trailer promises an emotionally charged journey, thrilling action, and sword fights. In an interview with Netflix, Theron teased that “there’s something for everyone in this movie.”

The original team in The Old Guard is returning, with KiKi Lay, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, and Chiwetel Ejiofor reprising their roles as Nile, Joe, Nicky, and James Copley. In the face of the new threat, they seek help from an old friend, Tuah (Golding), who aids them in uncovering the mystery behind the immortal existence. On the other hand, Booker (Matthias Schoenaerts) remains in exile after his betrayal in the first movie but is expected to return in the sequel.

Our Take On The Old Guard 2’s Trailer

The Old Guard 2 Has Something For Everyone

The sword fight at the end of the trailer feels like a callback to Kill Bill, where Thurman played a vengeful bride with a kill list. Her sword fight with Lucy Liu remains one of the most iconic scenes in Quentin Tarantino’s films. The samurai sword also became a symbol in films and promotions. It’s certainly interesting to see Thurman in another sword fight. Not to mention, The Old Guard 2‘s trailer ends in a classic silhouette. Even though The Old Guard 2 took nearly five years to get a sequel due to delays, it seems that the wait may be worth it after all.
