Mark Hamill will play another villain in The Long Walk, which is based on one of the most underrated Stephen King novels. The trailer for The Long Walk has finally been released, and makes it clear that nobody will be rooting for Hamill’s character in the dystopian horror movie. The Long Walk, which is based on the novel that was originally published under King’s pseudonym Richard Bachman in 1979, follows a group of young men who participate in a televised contest which requires them to walk along U.S. Route 1.
In the film, the men will have to walk faster than 3 miles per hour to avoid being killed. The contest will last until only one of the participants is left alive. In addition to Hamill, the cast of The Long Walk includes Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, and Ben Wang. Since it is one of Stephen King’s best novels, filmmakers have been trying to make an adaptation of The Long Walk for decades. Therefore, it’s exciting that a movie based on The Long Walk is finally getting made, and it will be interesting to see Hamill play the main villain.
Mark Hamill’s The Long Walk Villain Already Looks Terrifying
Mark Hamill Commands The Screen In The Long Walk Trailer
In The Long Walk, Hamill will play the Major, who is in charge of all the soldiers and will travel alongside the contestants in a truck while they walk. While this compeтιтion seems easy enough at first, the first death in The Long Walk will make it clear to all the contestants that only one of them is going to survive. Since Hamill’s character has seemingly been enforcing the compeтιтion for years, this clearly isn’t something that bothers him, which hints at his sadistic nature.
The trailer for The Long Walk smartly features a speech from Hamill, in which his character explains the rules of the contest and why it will be so hard. Out of all the characters in The Long Walk, including a speech from the Major was a wise decision since Hamill has an intimidating, almost sinister voice. Based on this trailer, it is evident that Hamill’s character will be terrifying in The Long Walk, and will likely relish the deaths of the young men.
Mark Hamill Has A Long History Of Playing Villains, Including His Shady Role In The Fall Of The House Of Usher
Mark Hamill Is Great At Playing Villains
While he is most well-known for playing the heroic Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise, Hamill has also played many villains in his career. Specifically, he has voiced many villainous characters in animated projects. For example, Hamill voiced Fire Lord Ozai in Avatar: The Last Airbender and the Joker in various animated DC projects. The Joker is arguably the most popular villain ever, and Hamill has solidified himself as one of the best Joker performers.
In addition to these performances, Hamill also played a shady antagonist in the 2023 miniseries The Fall of the House of Usher. This show was created by Mike Flanagan, who has also directed several Stephen King adaptations. In The Fall of the House of User, Hamilly plays Arthur Gordon Pym, the Usher family’s attorney and fixer. In the show, he is often referred to as “The Pym Reaper” and is known for being merciless and ruthless. Hamill’s chilling performance in The Fall of the House of Usher honestly made me question whether his character is even human.
The Long Walk May Give Mark Hamill Another Memorable Villain Role
Mark Hamill’s The Long Walk Character Will Likely Be Terrifying
Just two years after The Fall of the House of Usher, I’m glad to see that Hamill has taken on another villain role for The Long Walk. The rules of the contest will put the participants through enough turmoil, but I have a feeling that Hamill’s character will also terrorize them while they are on their walk. Therefore, I think it’s likely that Mark Hamill’s villain role in The Long Walk will be talked about for years to come, just like so many of his other characters.
