Donnie Yen’s John Wick Spinoff Is Officially Paying Off John Wick 4’s Post-Credits Scene Now

Over two years later, we finally have confirmation that the Caine spinoff will reveal what happens after the post-credits scene of the last John Wick movie. Even though Caine, who is played by Donnie Yen, has only appeared in one John Wick movie, anticipation is high for the upcoming spinoff. In John Wick: Chapter 4, Caine was introduced as a blind but highly skilled ᴀssᴀssin. In fact, Caine is arguably the most capable ᴀssᴀssin Keanu Reeves’ iconic character faces throughout the series.

John Wick: Chapter 4 was the most critically and commercially successful movie of the series, and fans have every reason to be excited about the future of the franchise. In addition to the confirmed John Wick 5, Ballerina will also expand the world of the franchise. However, because of the impact he left in the fourth film, I think I am most excited for the upcoming Caine spinoff. Donnie Yen’s character is amazing, and the Caine spinoff is now even more exciting since Rina Sawayama, who played Akira in John Wick: Chapter 4, has officially joined the cast.

John Wick 4’s Post-Credits Scene Teased A Caine vs Akira Showdown

Akira Wants Revenge Against Caine For The Death Of Her Father

Caine is technically a villain for the majority of John Wick: Chapter 4, since he is sent by the High Table to kill Reeves’ character. However, Caine only listens to the High Table because they threaten to harm his daughter if he does not. Therefore, when John Wick arrives at the Continental H๏τel in Osaka, Caine follows him. Akira is the Concierge of Osaka’s Continental H๏τel, which is run by her father. Tragically, during the battle that takes place at the Osaka Continental H๏τel, Caine kills her father.

After John Wick leaves Osaka, Akira doesn’t appear again in John Wick: Chapter 4 until the post-credits scene. In the post-credits scene of John Wick 4, Caine is seen walking through a crowd with flowers, eager to reunite with his daughter after being granted his freedom from the High Table. However, Akira walks towards him, desperately wanting revenge for the death of her father. As Akira gets closer to Caine, she pulls out a knife, but the movie cuts to black before she reaches her target.

Caine Spinoff Can Now Reveal What Happened Between Him & Akira After John Wick 4’s Post-Credits Scene

Did Akira Kill Caine?

Now that it has been confirmed that Sawayama has been cast in the Caine spinoff, the movie can continue the story between the two ᴀssᴀssins. Perhaps this post-credits scene will be the first scene in the spinoff movie and reveal what happens when Akira reaches Caine. Since Caine will be the main character in the spinoff, it would be surprising if he actually does get killed in this moment. More than likely, Akira will spare his life, but it is unknown why she would make this decision.

Because of what Caine did to her father in John Wick: Chapter 4, it will likely be hard for Akira to control her desire for revenge.

If she doesn’t end up killing him in this scene, it is unknown if Akira will be one of Caine’s allies or enemies in the upcoming spinoff film. Both Caine and Akira are amazing characters, so it would be great to see them potentially work together. However, because of what Caine did to her father in John Wick: Chapter 4, it will likely be hard for Akira to control her desire for revenge. No matter what happens between the two characters, I am excited to see them finally face off against each other in the Caine spinoff movie.

John Wick 4’s Post-Credits Scene Always Made Akira’s Return Highly Likely

Akira’s Story Needs To Be Resolved In The Caine Spinoff

While two years pᴀssed before it was officially announced, I always ᴀssumed that Sawayama would reprise her role as Akira in the Caine spinoff. Since franchise director Chad Stahelski included this post-credits scene in the fourth film, it would be strange if him and his creative team decided not to pay it off. Therefore, even though it is great to get confirmation that Sawayama will reprise her role, it was always expected that Akira would return after the dramatic ending of the last John Wick movie.
