Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom Kills Thanos In Thrilling Avengers: Doomsday Concept Video

A new Avengers: Doomsday concept video imagines a battle between Doctor Doom and Thanos, and its ending is quite dark. The Marvel Cinematic Universe will soon get a new main villain, with Avengers: Doomsday‘s story introducing Victor von Doom to the franchise. Josh Brolin’s Thanos was originally going to be replaced by Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror and his variants, the Council of Kangs, but those plans were scrapped when the Kang actor was fired by Marvel. Now, Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom is the Multiverse Saga’s main threat, and many characters are in danger.

On YouTube, Mightyraccoon! shared a video of what a fight between RDJ’s Doctor Doom and Brolin’s Thanos could look like in Avengers: Doomsday.

In Marvel Comics, God Emperor Doom brutally murders Thanos in the 2015 Secret Wars event. The concept video uses that moment, with Doom ripping Thanos’ spine out of his body with ease. Currently, Thanos is ᴅᴇᴀᴅ in the MCU, with Brolin not announced for the cast of the next Avengers movie. However, there have been rumors that the Mad тιтan could return, with Brolin himself saying in interviews that he heard through the grapevine that Thanos could return.

Could Doctor Doom Kill Thanos In Avengers: Doomsday?

The Mad тιтan Could Appear In The Avengers Movie

There are a few ways Thanos could come back to the MCU to make the Avengers movie concept video a reality. Having Downey’s Doctor Doom kill Brolin’s Thanos would be a great way of setting up how big of a threat the villain is. As such, Doctor Doom could be shown killing a Thanos variant at the start of Avengers: Doomsday, perhaps while going through different universes, doing the same to other variants of MCU characters. With Doom’s debut happening in the movie where he becomes the MCU’s new Big Bad, Marvel can’t waste time.

Disney+’s What If…? has already introduced multiple Thanos variants to the MCU, so pulling a multiverse take on the character for Avengers: Doomsday would not be impossible. Thanos has died many times in the MCU, including his Avengers: Endgame death, and Doomsday could add to that list. In 2024, Josh Brolin addressed Thanos’ many deaths, calling him “the most killed-off Marvel villain.” Thanos’ return could also happen differently, with the villain either joining Doctor Doom’s possible team or the Cabal, the group he was part of in the Secret Wars comics, before being killed at the end by Doom.

Our Take On Whether Doctor Doom Could Kill Thanos In Avengers: Doomsday

The MCU Has Made Major Comic Book Moments A Reality

God Emperor Doom removing Thanos' skeleton in Marvel Comics' Secret Wars

While Thanos might be ᴅᴇᴀᴅ in the MCU, I feel confident that Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom will kill a version of the Mad тιтan in one of the upcoming Avengers films. Be it through the multiverse, time travel, or else, I think it would be a big missed opportunity not to recreate the iconic Secret Wars moment where Doctor Doom rips out Thanos’ spine. It is a brutal moment that cements just how powerful God Emperor Doom is, and given how Marvel Studios has adapted major comic book moments before, Avengers: Doomsday could go for it.
