The first trailer has been released for Highest 2 Lowest. Directed by Spike Lee, this movie is an English-language remake of Akira Kurosawa’s High and Low. Highest 2 Lowest is about a music mogul who becomes the subject of a ransom plot, facing moral dilemmas along the way. The movie transports Kurosawa’s story to New York City. The film features a cast including Denzel Washington, Jeffrey Wright, A$AP Rocky, Ice Spice, Ilfenesh Hadera, and Michael Potts.
Now, A24 has released a trailer for Highest 2 Lowest. The trailer begins with an artistic rendering of the Brooklyn Bridge, while Washington speaks in voiceover. The trailer then shows Washington’s character at work, in his music career, as he speaks about how “the hard times will come from the good times, the hard times will come from success.” He asks someone off-screen, presumably a client, “Can you handle all that?“
What This Means For Highest 2 Lowest
Washington & Lee Join Forces Again
The trailer opens by emphasizing Washington and Lee’s past projects together, putting the тιтles of their previous collaborations on screen. The pair first worked together on Mo’ Better Blues in 1990. They have gone on to collaborate on several notable projects since then, but the most recent тιтle was Inside Man in 2006. As such, it has been almost two full decades since the director-actor combo has hit the big screen. This makes Highest 2 Lowest an exciting re-team, and it is an aspect that the film’s marketing is sure to capitalize on.
Stylistically, the Highest 2 Lowest trailer features fairly fast edits. Coupled with the poetic narration, this gives the trailer a rhythmic feel that recalls some of Lee’s most famous work, such as Do the Right Thing. While the pacing may not maintain this momentum throughout the film, the film’s setting in the music world could lend itself to some intriguing opportunities to make use of dynamic rhythms and pacing.
Our Take On The Highest 2 Lowest Trailer
Spike Lee’s Return Looks Exciting
The Highest 2 Lowest trailer further confirms that the movie is one of the films to watch out for this year. The movie will premiere out of compeтιтion at Cannes later this month, so there will likely be some initial buzz about it at that time. In addition to the long gap between Washington and Lee’s Inside Man work and now, Lee himself has not put out a narrative feature in half a decade since Da 5 Bloods. So far, Highest 2 Lowest looks like an exciting return to Lee, and hopefully, it can live up to its promising teaser.
