New MCU Report Reveals That Avengers: Doomsday Directors Joe & Anthony Russo Directed The Thunderbolts* Post-Credit Scene

Warning! This article contains spoilers for Thunderbolts*An MCU report reveals the Russo Bros. sH๏τ Thunderbolts*‘ post-credits scene on the set of Avengers: Doomsday. After Thunderbolts*‘ ending relaunches the Thunderbolts as the New Avengers, Thunderbolts*‘ post-credits scene reveals that the New Avengers now reside in Val’s Watchtower, following an ongoing “space crisis” and facing a rivalry with Sam Wilson’s Avengers team. Suddenly, a spacecraft enters their radar, and Yelena Belova spots the Fantastic Four’s emblem on the ship.

Following Thunderbolts*‘ worldwide release, CBR reports that Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars directors Joe and Anthony Russo directed Thunderbolts*‘ post-credits scene on the set of Avengers: Doomsday. Avengers: Doomsday started production in the United Kingdom only a couple of weeks before Thunderbolts*‘ release. That means the post-credits scene was probably sH๏τ only two weeks before Thunderbolts* hit theaters.

What Thunderbolts*’ Post-Credits Scene Report Means For Avengers: Doomsday

Joe & Anthony Russo Officially Kick Off Doomsday’s Story In Thunderbolts*

The Russo Bros.’ addition of Avengers: Doomsday‘s Fantastic Four tease in Thunderbolts* follow an old MCU tradition. Joe and Anthony Russo directed Avengers: Age of Ultron‘s post-credits tease, which is a scene taken straight out of Captain America: Civil War. Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘s post-credits tease, in turn, is an Avengers: Age of Ultron scene directed by Joss Whedon. Similarly to Avengers: Age of Ultron‘s credits scene, Thunderbolts*‘ tease could be a scene taken directly from Avengers: Doomsday.

Thunderbolts*‘ post-credits scene goes in line with everything Jake Schreier’s Phase 5 movie built up to, but Joe and Anthony Russo must know exactly how the New Avengers will evolve as a team throughout Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. After all, the new team will join forces with Sam Wilson’s Avengers instead of starring in a Thunderbolts* sequel. The New Avengers will also team up with the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, the Wakandans, and other major MCU characters.

The fact that the Russo bros. directed Thunderbolts*‘ post-credits scene suggests Marvel Studios has solid plans for the Multiverse Saga’s final chapter. Jake Schreier must have kept direct contact with Joe and Anthony Russo, and the Russo bros. may maintain the same communication with Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s Destin Daniel Cretton and other MCU directors, plus Kevin Feige himself. This degree of interconnectivity is exactly what the Multiverse Saga needed throughout Phases 4 and 5.
