Tom Cruise details his breakfast routine before filming a big plane scene in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. In the eighth installment in the franchise, coming to theaters on May 23, Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt, who has become a target with everyone in his life being in danger. In addition to Cruise, Final Reckoning‘s cast includes Hayley Atwell, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Angela Bᴀssett, and Esai Morales.
In an interview with People, Cruise revealed his special breakfast before filming a major plane scene in the upcoming eighth Mission: Impossible movie. He explained that the scene where he hangs off a biplane and wing-walks took a huge amount of energy and required a specific diet. The star also stressed that wing-walking on an aircraft that was up to “over 120 miles an hour” was particularly hard. Combining the alтιтude and the temperature, his body was “burning a lot.” Read his comments below:
I actually eat a mᴀssive breakfast. The amount of energy it takes — I train so hard for that wing-walking. I’ll eat, like, sausage and almost a dozen eggs and bacon and toast and coffee and fluids. Oh, I’m eating! Picture: It’s cold up there. We’re at high alтιтude. My body is burning a lot.
I remember seeing old footage of wing-walking. Those aircraft were only traveling at, I don’t know, 40, 50 miles an hour. This aircraft is up to over 120 miles an hour. Going out there, I was realizing that it takes your breath away.
What This Means For Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning
Tom Cruise Wing-Walks In Final Reckoning
Tom Cruise has performed many of his best stunts in the Mission: Impossible movies, including jumping off a cliff, climbing the world’s tallest building using a safety line, and dangling from a plane during takeoff. The next Mission: Impossible continues the trend of its daring and realistic execution, and at the same time, pushes it one step further. The challenge of wing-walking sounds like a real deal, especially coming from Cruise himself.
In the same interview, stunt coordinator Wade Eastwood stressed that Final Reckoning isn’t a green-screen film that sH๏τ all the action scenes on the ground, and he personally “guarantee[ed]” that “there was not one single sH๏τ that was not on a plane flying for real.” In addition to wing-walking, there’s also a submarine scene that nearly puts Cruise’s life in danger.
Our Take On Tom Cruise’s Comments
Final Reckoning Will Be Packed With Breathtaking Action
The eighth Mission: Impossible film already has the longest runtime in the franchise, but it sounds like the film will have the most daring stunts as well. As teased in Final Reckoning‘s trailer, there will be a lot of plane scenes, Cruise on the run, and him jumping into the ocean, which makes the upcoming action thriller a must-watch this month. His breakfast routine, on the other hand, sounds weirdly normal, only in a larger amount.
Ethan Hunt has pulled through many impossible tasks, but the one in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is unlike his previous missions. Now, Ethan must survive his past and himself, with everything about him being investigated and under the microscope. How he’ll be able to set everything right is something that fans will have to wait to find out when the movie arrives in theaters.
