Stranger Things’ Confirmed Spinoff Timeline Avoids One Big Problem That Would Have Ruined Season 5

Although some have (justified) concerns about Stranger Things season 5, one thing that fans don’t have to panic about is the franchise’s future ruining the original show’s ending. The Netflix sci-fi horror series, created by the Duffer Brothers, is concluding with its fifth season, more than three years after season 4’s premiere. Given the time between seasons, it’s easy to be worried about Stranger Things‘ final outing. The younger cast members have gotten older, and many have grown restless over having to wait for so long for season 5. Consequently, the upcoming episodes are bound by high expectations.

Although Netflix hasn’t announced an official release date for Stranger Things season 5, it is set to be released sometime in 2025.

Of course, many concerns originate from the simple fact that Stranger Things season 5 is the end. Too many great TV shows have had terrible finales, from Game of Thrones to How I Met Your Mother, and no one wants to see Stranger Things get added to that list. Hopefully, the Netflix series finishes on a high note. Then, we can look to the franchise’s future, which includes one Stranger Things spinoff that is already avoiding a mᴀssive problem.

Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 Won’t Go Beyond The Main Show’s Timeline (& That’s Good)

The Animated Series Takes Place In 1985

As of the writing of this article, the only known Stranger Things spinoff is an animated series. Its тιтle was previously unknown. However, a report from Variety reveals its name — Stranger Things: Tales From ’85. The тιтle should relieve any worry some may have that the spinoff will ruin the original show’s ending by taking place after the events of the series finale. If it did, that would mean that the Netflix sci-fi horror show would have an inconclusive conclusion instead of a fixed ending.

It’s still unclear what Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 will be about or who will be in it, but one thing is certain — it won’t be able to mess up or change the original show’s ending.

Stranger Things season 5 begins in the fall of 1987, approximately one and a half years after the events of the season 4 finale. Meanwhile, the animated spinoff is set in 1985, a couple of years before season 5. It’s still unclear what Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 will be about or who will be in it, but one thing is certain — it won’t be able to mess up or change the original show’s ending.

Other Stranger Things Spinoffs May Still Take Place After The Main Show

The Animated Series Isn’t The Only Spinoff In The Works

While fans don’t need to worry about the timeline of the Stranger Things animated series, the franchise isn’t out of the woods yet. More spinoffs are currently in the works, some of which could take place after the original show. Netflix is keeping details about the future series close to the vest, though. So, only time will tell if the other upcoming Stranger Things spinoffs will be capable of ruining the sci-fi horror show’s ending.
