If A Sons Of Anarchy Prequel Series Ever Happens, I Really Hope It Answers This One Lingering Question

Sons of Anarchy gave closure to its main characters while giving the тιтle club a new leader, but if the show ever expands with a prequel series, I really hope it answers this big question left by the main show. In 2008, Kurt Sutter took viewers to the fictional town of Charming, California, in the crime drama TV show Sons of Anarchy. Throughout seven seasons, Sons of Anarchy followed the many ups and downs of the club, not just within SAMCRO but with other groups and people, too.

Leading the show was Jackson “Jax” Teller (Charlie Hunnam), the son of one of the club’s founders, John “JT” Teller, and step-son of the club’s President, Clay Morrow (Ron Perlman). Throughout the show, Jax not only took over SAMCRO, but he also made some tragic discoveries about his family, especially related to JT’s death and his plans for the club. By the end of Sons of Anarchy, those involved in JT’s death paid for their many crimes and so did Jax, but if the show ever expands with a prequel series, I hope it answers this question about JT and the club’s past.

A Sons Of Anarchy Prequel Series Can Answer How Clay & Gemma’s JT Betrayal Began

Clay & Gemma Were Responsible For JT’s Death

JT formed the Sons of Anarchy club in 1967 with his best friend, Piermont “Piney” Winston, when they returned from the Vietnam War. Seeing how the country had deteriorated since they left and facing discrimination and economic hardship, JT and Piney formed the club with the intention of rediscovering the feeling of brotherhood they found in Vietnam. In addition to the clubhouse, JT also took over the automotive repair and garage business with Clay, who would go on to betray him years later.

It was revealed through some letters from JT that Clay and Gemma were involved in his death, with Clay sabotaging JT’s bike to make it look like an accident.

JT died in November 1993 when he was riding his bike and was hit by a semi-truck and dragged 178 yards. JT lived for two days before dying from his injuries, and so Clay became SAMCRO’s new President. In Sons of Anarchy season 5, it was revealed through some letters from JT that Clay and Gemma were involved in his death, with Clay sabotaging JT’s bike to make it look like an accident. In season 6, Gemma told Nero (Jimmy Smits) that JT was constantly traveling to Belfast while their youngest son, Thomas, was dying of a heart defect.

Gemma admitted to hating JT after Thomas’ death for not being there, and that by then, she and Clay were already together. Gemma also told Nero she didn’t want JT to end the club’s gun-running business, despite her not being a member of the club, but she was very influential. I’m sure there’s a lot more to Gemma and Clay’s story than just an affair and resentment towards JT for not being with his family, which is why I would love to see this being explored in depth in a prequel.

Will There Ever Be A Sons Of Anarchy Prequel?

What Does The Future Hold For Sons Of Anarchy?

Sons of Anarchy members riding

At the time of writing, Sons of Anarchy has only had a spinoff TV series, Mayans M.C., which, as the тιтle says, focused on that group, though SAMCRO was mentioned many times and some of its members appeared on the show from time to time. Back in 2014, there was the possibility of a Sons of Anarchy prequel series, as Sutter teased a project focused on SAMCRO’s First 9. As such, the show would have been set around the time of the Vietnam War, and it would have been a miniseries (via Nerdcore Movement).

However, after Sutter was fired from FX while Mayans M.C. was still airing, First 9 was reportedly scrapped, with Sutter telling ᴅᴇᴀᴅline that its future didn’t look hopeful as it was Disney’s property. Unless Sutter and Disney reach an agreement, the world of Sons of Anarchy might not expand anytime soon with either a prequel nor sequel series, leaving many questions about SAMCRO’s past and future.
