Until Dawn Sets Up Hayden Panettiere & Rami Malek’s Franchise Returns In A Surprising Way

After watching Until Dawn, I really hope Hayden Panettiere and Rami Malek reprise their roles from the 2015 video game of the same name. I was excited when an Until Dawn movie was announced, but surprised when it was revealed that it wouldn’t adapt the story of the original game. I was initially disappointed by this, since the game is so great, but I honestly think David F. Sandberg and the writers of the film did a great job bringing the world of Until Dawn to the big screen.

Even though reviews for Until Dawn have been quite mixed, I think there’s a strong chance it will get a sequel. The recently released movie includes many new concepts that aren’t included in the game. For example, the time loop in Until Dawn was not a concept in the game. While there are many differences between the two stories, the ending of Until Dawn reveals that the movie and the game exist in the same universe. This is exciting, as Panettiere and Malek can now reprise their roles from the Until Dawn video game in a sequel movie.

Until Dawn’s Movie Sets Up The First Video Game, Which Starred Hayden Panettiere & Rami Malek

The Until Dawn Movie Is A Prequel To The Video Game

The Until Dawn movie follows a brand-new set of characters, differentiating itself from the game. In the film, Clover, Max, Megan, Nina, and Abel are on a road trip one year after Clover’s sister went missing, which leads to them getting stuck in the time loop. However, one character from the game also appears in the movie. Once in the time loop, Clover encounters Dr. Hill, who only appears in hallucinations in the video game. The Until Dawn movie confirms that Hill is a real person, and reveals that he studies people who get stuck in the time loop.

While Clover and her friends manage to escape, the final sH๏τ of Until Dawn reveals that the movie is actually a prequel to the video game.

Hill has seemingly spent years studying the horrors that victims of the time loop encounter. However, at the end of Until Dawn, Clover manages to kill Hill and escape the time loop with her friends. While Clover and her friends manage to escape, the final sH๏τ of Until Dawn reveals that the movie is actually a prequel to the video game. At the end of the movie, the monitors in Hill’s office show a black SUV pulling up to a snowy cabin, which is the setting of the video game.

An Until Dawn Movie Sequel Can Now Adapt The Original Game & Bring Back The Video Game Cast

The Story Of The Until Dawn Video Game Is Amazing

Since this final sH๏τ establishes that the events of the movie take place before the game, a potential sequel to Until Dawn could adapt the story of the critically acclaimed video game. In the video game, Josh, who is portrayed by Malek, invites his group of friends back to a cabin one year after his twin sisters went missing there. All of his friends, including Sam, who is played by Panettiere, reluctantly agree to return. However, this ends up being a mistake, as they are all terrorized by a masked figure and wendigos.

In addition to Malek and Panettiere, the entire cast of the Until Dawn game could return for a sequel movie. It must be noted that all the actors are obviously much older than they were when the game was released, but them reprising their roles for a sequel movie could still work. Even Dr. Hill, who is played by Peter Stormare in both the movie and the game, could once again return for a sequel. In the game, Hill appears in Josh’s hallucinations, which is a plot point that the movie sets up by including Josh’s file on Hill’s desk.

Hayden Panettiere & Rami Malek Returning For An Until Dawn Movie Sequel Would Be Exciting

Panettiere & Malek Returning Would Bring The Until Dawn Franchise Full Circle

Ever since I first played the Until Dawn video game when it was initially released, I’ve always been impressed by how talented the cast is. Since the release of the game, several of the cast members have gone on to earn even more acclaim. Most notably, Malek has starred in movies like The Amateur, No Time to Die, and Bohemian Rhapsody, which earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor. Meanwhile, Panettiere was amazing in Nashville and returned to the Scream franchise for the sixth entry in 2023.

While the game was released ten years ago, it would be amazing to see Panettiere and Malek reprise their roles in a sequel movie. The final sH๏τ of Until Dawn is the perfect set up for the sequel to adapt the story of the video game. Therefore, even though I was initially disappointed that the Until Dawn movie was not adapting the game, it’s possible that my wishes could still come true. Now that the first Until Dawn movie has been released, I hope that Panettiere and Malek will sign on for a sequel.
