Is Lizzy Caplan Returning For Now You See Me 3?

Now You See Me: Now You Don’t is the long-awaited threequel of the Now You See Me series, which will finally arrive in theaters in November 2025 with most of the celebrated cast returning. Kicking off in 2013 and followed up by a sequel in 2016, the glitzy crime thriller franchise follows a network of modern-day magicians carrying on a centuries-old tradition of using their skills to steal from the rich and redistribute wealth. Despite mixed critical reception, Now You See Me is a well-liked series that is elevated by the decorated cast led by Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, and Morgan Freeman.

Now You See Me 3‘s trailer reveals the first details about this movie’s plot, which revolves around the “Four Horsemen” of the previous movies recruiting a new generation to help them steal an invaluable diamond from a crime dynasty, a family that seems to be led by Rosamund Pike’s character. With Now You See Me‘s veteran cast returning and Barbie‘s Ariana Greenblatt, I Saw The TV Glow‘s Justice Smith, and The Holdovers’ Dominic Sessa as the youngsters, it should be a party of a movie. However, one beloved cast member is notably missing.

Lizzy Caplan Is Not Confirmed To Return As Lula In Now You See Me 3

Caplan’s Lulu Is Missing From The Now You See Me 3 Trailer

Lizzy Caplan joined the series in its second outing when Isla Fisher was unable to return for Now You See Me 2, becoming the one female member of the main group. Despite this kind of tokenism, Caplan was a strong addition to the cast, playing spirited recruit Lula, who has great chemistry with the other actors and a cute romantic subplot with Dave Franco’s Jack. However, Fisher is now available again and Henley is in the new trailer, while Lulu is not. There has been no confirmation if Caplan will be in the third installment (at the time of writing).

What Lizzy Caplan Has Said About Returning In Now You See Me 3

Caplan Said She Didn’t Know Anything About The Movie

In an interview from February 2025 with Screen Rant‘s Liam Crowley to promote her new miniseries Zero Day, Caplan seemingly suggested that she didn’t know anything about the new Now You See Me movie, and hadn’t been approached about it. Despite the fact that “fans are begging for Lula to come back,” Caplan could only say “I don’t know” about her potential return, and didn’t know that the movie was coming out this fall and is likely out of production.

Caplan’s comments on Now You See Me 3 could have been staged to conceal a plot twist concerning Lula, if she turned out to be a twist villain, similar to how Michael Caine’s character returned in Now You See Me 2, but potentially more interesting. On the other hand, she may have been entirely shut out of the franchise once the producers were able to re-recruit Isla Fisher in Caplan’s place, which would taint the upcoming release. When Caplan was so much fun to watch before, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t would really be remiss not to use her, but there is still hope.
