Nicole Kidman & Sandra Bullock’s Cult Favorite Fantasy Movie Enjoys Streaming Resurgence As Sequel Development Continues

Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock‘s cult favorite fantasy movie enjoys a resurgence on streaming as development on the sequel continues. Both Kidman and Bullock have enjoyed decorated careers across the movies and TV shows they’ve been in over the years. Kidman’s most recent lineup of films includes the erotic thriller Babygirl from 2024, and 2025’s psychological thriller Holland, both films giving her different ways to flex her acting muscles. She’s also on the cast of Lioness, a Paramount+ series created by Taylor Sheridan, for which she also serves as an executive producer.

Bullock has not been in as many projects as Kidman in recent years, but has had a decorated career, starring in movies like the space-based Gravity and 2019’s post-apocalyptic thriller Bird Box. Her latest starring roles both came about in 2022, where she played Loretta Sage in The Lost City and Maria Beetle in Bullet Train, with both movies being action comedies. Kidman and Bullock have proven themselves as capable actors, reflected in their many memorable works. But there’s one movie they starred in together that’s getting a resurgence on streaming, over 25 years after it was released.

Practical Magic Emerges As A Streaming Success

The 1998 Cult Classic Is Regaining Popularity

Kidman and Bullock’s 1998 fantasy movie Practical Magic is rising in popularity on streaming, the cult classic gaining new life over 25 years later. Leading the cast of Practical Magic, the pair star as sisters Gillian (Kidman) and Sally Owens (Bullock), descendants from a long line of witches. The pair are forced to confront Gillian’s abusive boyfriend, Jimmy (Goran Visnjic), to defeat his evil spirit. The movie was panned by critics but has since developed a cult following, with Practical Magic 2 getting confirmed to be in development in 2024.

Now, FlixPatrol reports that Practical Magic is Number 5 on Max’s Top 10 movies list for April 30, 2025. This puts the fantasy cult classic right in the center of the streaming service’s most popular movies right now. The film sits above Logan, Y2K, Land of the Lost, Fist Fight, and Life of the Party, while coming in below 2073, The Accountant, Brett Goldstein: The Second Best Night of Your Life, and the streamer’s current Number 1 film – and another Kidman movie – Babygirl.

Although the movie came out in the late ’90s, Kidman and Bullock‘s involvement in the fantasy film is clearly something modern audiences haven’t forgotten about. Its popularity on streaming is also a good sign for the upcoming Practical Magic 2, which could see its own popularity bolstered thanks to the original’s success on Max. While it’s unclear if Practical Magic will maintain its spot in the Top 10 for a long time, it does signal interest in the film has only been growing.
