Kim Woo-bin & Suzy Are Reuniting For A New K-Drama After 11 Years (And It Will Be Nothing Like Uncontrollably Fond)

Kim Woo-woo bin and Suzy starred in the 2016 romantic K-drama, Uncontrollably Fond, and they will once again appear as an on-screen couple in a new Netflix Korean series, Genie, Make A Wish. Written by Lee Kyung-hee, Uncontrollably Fond follows Shin Jun-young, a popular movie star and musician who falls for No Eul, a young woman down on her luck. The romantic K-drama has been praised for its feel-good romance, great chemistry between its primary protagonists, and incredibly engaging subplots.

Shin Jun-young and No Eul are undoubtedly one of the best K-drama couples, so the fact that they are reuniting, even though it took more than a decade, is great news for fans of the South Korean actors. While Uncontrollably Fond has several heartwarming moments, it also includes sad scenes that might make you cry. Given how great Kim Woo-bin and Suzy were in Uncontrollably Fond, it comes as no surprise that the actors are getting another chance to showcase their incredible chemistry in a Netflix original K-drama.

Kim Woo-bin And Suzy Will Star In Genie, Make A Wish For Netflix

Kim Woo-bin And Suzy Are Reuniting After 11 Years

After starring in Uncontrollably Fond, Kim Woo-bin and Suzy went on to have relatively successful careers. Kim Woo-bin took a break from acting in 2017 following his cancer diagnosis (via Times Now News). When the actor returned to the big and small screen, he appeared in Black Night, Alienoid, and Officer Balck Belt. Suzy, on the other hand, has had roles in popular K-dramas such as While You Were Sleeping, Vagabond, and Doona! since been featured in the award-winning Korean TV show.

Netflix announced that the two beloved Korean actors will be collaborating on another project, Genie, Make A Wish. The Netflix original K-drama will be written by Kim Eun-sook, who is known for penning successful shows such as The Glory, Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, and Descendants of the Sun. Genie, Make A Wish will focus on the love story between Kim Woo-bin’s Genie and Suzy’s Ga Young. Ga Young, who is described as “a woman who lacks emotion,” summons Genie, a magical creature who is the complete opposite of her.

Netflix hasn’t revealed a lot of details about Genie, Make A Wish. Apart from Kim Woo-bin and Suzy, Ahn Eun-jin, Steve Noh, Go Gyu-pil, and Lee Joo-young will also be part of the cast of the Netflix K-drama. As of this article’s writing, the streamer hasn’t yet announced when Genie, Make A Wish will be released, but it’s expected to be added to the Netflix library in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Genie, Make A Wish Sounds Nothing Like Uncontrollably Fond

There Are Several Differences Between Genie, Make A Wish And Uncontrollably Fond

While Genie, Make A Wish, and Uncontrollably Fond will see the long-awaited Kim Woo-bin and Suzy reunion, the two K-dramas are completely different from each other. Uncontrollably Fond is a melodrama with a sad story. Although it features some romantic K-drama tropes, like a love story between a famous person and one who isn’t well-known, it doesn’t add any fantasy elements to its plot. Genie, Make A Wish, on the other hand, sounds like it will be a romantic K-drama, albeit with a twist.

Genie, Make A Wish Cast & Characters

Ga Young

Ahn Eun-jin

Go Gyu-pil

Steve Noh

Su-hyeon

Lee Joo-young

Kim Woo-bin’s Genie is also vastly different from Shin Jun-young. Genie is full of emotional excess, whereas Shin Jun-young had the ability to control how he felt and also had a terminal illness. Suzy’s character in Uncontrollably Fond, No Eul, was full of life and experienced every emotion that came with living, whether it was joy, anger, or sadness. Ga Young, however, is a character who lacks that integral part of being human.

Despite the plot and character differences between Genie, Make A Wish and Uncontrollably Fond, the former K-drama has all the markings to be just as good or better than Uncontrollably Fond. Genie, Make A Wish has not only been written by the talented Kim Eun-sook, but it also has a star-studded cast with actors audiences have been wanting to see on screen together for years. This and more make Genie, Make A Wish one of the most anticipated K-dramas of 2025.
