Netflix’s Bridgerton is one of those unique series that already has a set number of seasons planned ahead of it, and though the coming installments will surely be entertaining, this formula leaves one underrated character without a story. Based on the Bridgerton books by Julia Quinn, every season of Bridgerton follows one of the eight Bridgerton siblings. Thus far, audiences have watched Daphne, Anthony, and Colin fall in love. The future still holds Benedict, Eloise, Francesca, Hyacinth, and Gregory’s stories. Yet, romance has blossomed for characters other than the Bridgertons, which means some loves will be left in the dark.
Really, Bridgerton has long struggled with its vast ensemble of characters. It is already an effort to portray all eight Bridgerton siblings in a single season, but on top of that, the show also delves into the lives of the Featheringtons, the Queen, Lady Danbury, and other families in the ton. Because of this constant juggling of storylines, some Bridgerton characters end up getting overshadowed or forgotten, when, in reality, the show wouldn’t be possible without them. Unfortunately, this problem will likely only continue as new seasons of Bridgerton come out.
Violet Bridgerton Is Quietly Bridgerton’s Most Overlooked Hero
Violet Especially Stepped Up In Season 3
One figure in Bridgerton who is often overlooked, but is totally necessary to the story, is Violet Bridgerton. The mother of the Bridgerton siblings often acts as the voice of reason for her children, guiding them through the ups and downs of romance in the Regency Era. Of course, Violet makes mistakes like any other character on the show, but her intentions are always golden. She is a woman who has suffered great tragedy in her life, yet continues to greet every day and every problem with a good atтιтude and kindness above all else.
Violet’s significance as a character became even more apparent in Bridgerton season 3. With Daphne’s disappearance from the show, Violet was able to step in and carry out some of the emotional duties that might have fallen on her eldest daughter. For example, when Colin discovers that he loves Penelope, Violet reminds him of the friendship she shared with his father before they actually fell in love. In a similar vein, she tries to help Francesca navigate her romance with John Stirling, which Violet can see isn’t as strong as it should be. Season 3 proved how vital Violet is.
Violet Won’t Get Her Own Bridgerton Season, But She Really Deserves One
Violet Should Get A Spinoff Like Queen Charlotte
The real tragedy of Violet Bridgerton is that she won’t get her own Bridgerton season. If the series follows the trajectory of the books, then it will only show the romantic stories of the Bridgerton children, not their mother. Violet got hints of a romance in Bridgerton season 3, via Marcus Anderson, but this doesn’t match up to the miraculous romance Violet had with her husband, Edmund. Violet’s love of Edmund is what guides her throughout the series and allows her to give her children such good advice. Therefore, to never see that story play out is a disappointment.
The ideal solution to this Violet problem would be to give her a spinoff series similar to Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
The ideal solution to this Violet problem would be to give her a spinoff series similar to Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. Just as audiences got to see Charlotte and George’s romance from its rocky beginnings, another Bridgerton spinoff series could focus on Violet when she first meets Edmund, and the process of them falling in love. In reality, it could function just like any other Bridgerton season, just set in a different year and with different actors. By doing this, Bridgerton would not have to leave such a wide gap in Violet’s overall story.
Is Violet Secretly Bridgerton’s Main Character?
Bridgerton Must Give Every Character Their Moment To Shine
Violet certainly plays a far more important role in Bridgerton than most give her credit for, but it wouldn’t necessarily be fair to call her the main character. Really, Bridgerton benefits from the fact that its main character is constantly shifting. Each season allows viewers to dig deeper into a figure that they already know and love, and this deep dive is only improved by the fact that it’s temporary. We only have so much time to exist in a character’s love story, so we must enjoy it as much as we can before it’s time to move on.

More than anything, Bridgerton just needs to take the time to give every character their moment in the sun. Obviously, the Bridgerton siblings are the most important element of the series, yet that doesn’t mean that characters like Violet cannot get a spinoff series or even a one-off episode. Bridgerton boasts so many amazing characters that it would be a shame not to see them shine in some capacity, even if it goes against the source material.
