Many of Squid Game‘s bravest characters died while trying to fight back against the guards, including Jung-bae, who was killed to send a message to Gi-hun. While the protagonist’s plan looked like it could work, the Front Man was always one step ahead, leading to Squid Game season 2’s bleak ending. However, Gi-hun wasn’t the only one trying to put a stop to these sadistic challenges.

As admirable as it was to see the protagonist and his fellow players uniting for the greater good, it was always going to be a big ask for them to successfully take down such a well-organized system. Additionally, the Front Man infiltrating the games in Squid Game season 2 made the revolt even more impossible, but there is still a chance the regime can be taken down from the inside, which Kang No-eul’s story proves. She has already been seen defying orders, and one critical scene from season 2’s finale confirms she is starting her own rebellion.

Once the tide started to turn in Squid Game season 2’s finale, the guards showed little remorse, killing several players who opted to participate in the uprising, but Gyeong-seok seems to have been spared. Although he was also sH๏τ alongside his fellow players, the guard who dealt with Gyeong-seok seemed to lower their gun before pulling the trigger, indicating the bullet may have hit a less fatal area. Of course, a bullet wound is still dangerous regardless of where it hits, but rather than shooting straight through his chest, the guard appeared to offer him a chance at survival.

Although we don’t see who the guard in question is, everything points towards it being Kang No-eul. She has acted as Gyeong-seok’s guardian angel before, and it wouldn’t be the first time her sH๏τ has intentionally been non-lethal. The shooter also seemed to be of a smaller stature, further hinting it could’ve been No-eul, making this minor season 2 detail incredibly important. Considering the camera never pans to player 246 after he is sH๏τ, the possibility of No-eul intentionally keeping him alive could be one of Squid Game‘s best plot twists, which simultaneously sets up an internal rebellion next season.

Kang No-eul Frequently Denied Orders Throughout Season 2, Setting Up Her Own Rebellion

Season 2 had already made it clear that No-eul wasn’t playing by the rules, but her decision to defy orders even after being punished for her disobedience is a clear sign she plans on rebelling against the games. Despite her cold atтιтude, No-eul seems to have good intentions and only appears to be working as a guard so that she can put a stop to the chaos – the same reason Gi-hun reentered as a player. Although her refusal to kill Gyeong-seok may be because of her own personal connection to him, it also could be because of his bravery.

For her plan to work, she may need as many rebellious players as possible, giving her another motive to keep player 246 alive. No-eul’s confrontations with Park Hee-soon’s Front Man replacement in season 2 means her lack of cooperation is already apparent to those responsible for running the games. However, she has remained patient when it comes to seeking an opportunity to fight back against her fellow guards, and while it’s not clear exactly what her plan will be in season 3, No-eul looks destined to play a key role in the show’s ending.

Despite Gi-hun’s Plan Failing, No-eul Could Potentially Put An End To The Games Once & For All

While Gi-hun’s rivalry with the Front Man will be at the center of Squid Game season 3, the series is excitedly building towards No-eul taking the games down from the inside. Of course, the other players will still be a pivotal part of the show and may end up aiding No-eul’s attempt to overthrow the leaders, but seeing her plot a way to sabotage things from within will be exciting. She hasn’t successfully recruited other guards, but after the players fought back in season 2’s finale, it’s possible she may be able to influence her peers.

Whether she talks them into leaving so that there are fewer guards to deal with or convinces them to join her in fighting back against the Front Man and the VIPs, her role could set up a fascinating war. Even if she continues to be more of a solo act, Hwang Jun-ho and his crew may offer her ᴀssistance if they eventually find and infiltrate the games. It might take both the players and Jun-ho’s crew for the rebellion to work, but No-eul causing problems from the inside undoubtedly sets up a fascinating story in Squid Game season 3.
