The third image features the Oscar-winning Regina King (If Beale Street Could Talk) as NYPD detective Elise Roman.
The images also feature Bad Bunny and others as members of a Puerto Rican gang and Austin Butler’s Hank walking with two Jewish mobsters, Lipa and Shmully, played by Liev Schreiber and Vincent D’Onofrio. What The Caught Stealing Images Mean For The Movie
Everything Revealed By The First-Look PH๏τos
Vanity Fair‘s first look contains several intriguing reveals for Caught Stealing, including some additional plot details. The film’s inciting incident appears to occur when Hank’s neighbor, Russ, asks him to watch his cat while he is out of town, though trouble finds Hank when two thugs see him leaving the apartment and ᴀssume he is connected to $4 million in missing mob money. The catch is that Hank has no clue where the money actually is, as multiple gangs begin circling and pressuring him for answers.
The first images from Caught Stealing also reveal the film’s strong sense of setting, as it was mostly filmed on location in the East Village. By winding the clocks back to the 1990s, Caught Stealing is set during a time when there weren’t widespread cell phones or surveillance, and some shady activities could be carried out largely unnoticed. Overall, the vibe doesn’t appear to be too far off from Martin Scorsese’s After Hours.
Our Take On Caught Stealing’s First-Look Images
It Looks Fun
Caught Stealing‘s first-look images appear to truly capture the essence of New York City’s East Village, including its offbeat atmosphere and oddball characters, such as Matt Smith’s mohawked punk rocker. In turn, Caught Stealing should provide a stark contrast to the emotional anguish of Darren Aronofsky’s last movie, The Whale, and his harrowing drug addiction drama, Requiem for a Dream. Instead, Caught Stealing simply looks fun, though Hank’s nightmare experiences might not be.
Caught Stealing releases on August 29.
